New MBP vs. 2014 MBP performance - please advice

Hi guys,

I'm confused, may I ask for your advice?

Old 2014 13in MBP had 2.6GHz IntelCore i5 processor and 8GB Memory.

New MBP has 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 and 16GB Memory.

Does it mean that the 7 years old MBP had "more power" for editing videos (Premiere and AE) than the new one has?

On the old one I was able to edit videos no problem. Yes, pretty slow with 4K footage, but doable, especially when using Proxies.

But would I be able to do the work on the new one?

Thank you so much for your advice.

P.

Sorry, I don’t use those apps so I’m not sure about their performances.

About the 2 machines you pointed, the MBP 16” will outperform the 13” for sure. It has better cooling system, allowing CPU and GPU to run for a longer period at higher clocks. CPU is more powerful. It has a GPU, which makes a lot of difference for the job you intend to do.

But there’s also M1 Macs now, with amazing performance experienced by a lot of people around the world. Go to YouTube and check comparisons and performance tests. I’m sure you’ll like it very much.

They don't compare, not at all. Modern CPUs are way more capable even with less clock speed. Performance per watt or performance per clock is way different between those 2.

The modern CPU design contains way more transistors and functions integrated to it that can do things in a blink of an eye that the old one would take a long time to process.

It's another world. There's an abysm between them.

If you're going to buy one, the newer one is the right choice. Plus it has double of RAM, which is also way faster than in the old one.

Thank you so much Rafael for this.

That is a great news, because my old one just died and I was worried that the new one will not do the job.

May I ask one more question?

For video editing (Premiere) and video graphics (After Effects), which of these two would you suggest?

Do you think the first one's performance would be enough? Or is the difference between these two quite significant?
