I updated my operating system to Catalina and now "Mail" is messed up!

I litterly have spent two days with Tech support both my internet (and email accounts) and Apple support which are a great bunch of people trying to fix the problems with "Mail" on My IMAC after installing the updated OS Catalina. To my horror, all my email accounts had error symbols that represented problems connecting to the other servers. I have several email accounts and thousands of emails over the years too. I do have a back up external hargrove but that is for system crashes but still insurance policy. All kind of things were thought to be the problem, we added and deleted to only incur the same problem of "not able to verify password and ID" or "cannot make a connection to server". Well my apple tech finally took my computer into safe mode to eliminate all interference from anything else to find out if Mail was ok in Safe Mode. You could see the email account errors still but then we deleted and re-added the email accounts one by one and now they displayed fine. We went back into the regular operating mode and they once again appeared to be OK. Then the real test was to send an email and see if it truly was fixed, and once again the error flags appeared again. This made me think from the various things I learned, that maybe I should disable my Adguard their party app that runs to remove "ads" from websites I visit which it does a great job of an then try sending an email and see what happens.

THAT WAS IT ALL ALONG IT WAS THE ADGUARD PROGRAM RUNNING THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY I CAN'T RUN THAT APP WITHOUT IT INTERFERING WITH AND CAUSING ISSUES WITH MY MAC MAIL TO FAIL.

Even my lost folders reappeared and I can send and receive email just fine now!!! Sad this had to take two days on the phone to figure this out.

That's fine but this is a very old problem that has numerous google searches on the topic where it has many complaints on this very subject that finally helped me finally figure out where my problem lied. I updated to Cataline which is already a two year OS and even Big Sur is enchanting the same issues with mail too, SO IT SHOULD BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND A MOST LIKELY A QUICK FIX. already well established with tech support. I was very disappointed with tech support including my IP provider didn't know immediately where to look for the problem. I don't think my suggestion is going to mean much frankly, but I posted it hear for readers searching for answers can find it.

Thanks for posting as I had the same issue and didn't even think of turning off AdGuard. It seems to have started with the very recent update to AdGuard (v2.6) which was released October 15, prior to that I don't think there were any issues, which is probably why tech support couldn't help. A few people have raised this as a bug with AdGuard so I hope it will be fixed soon.

I'm sure you are right about the AdGuard updated version because as soon as I installed Catalina and the system rebooted, AdGuard wanted to do an update and I allowed it to. It's does a great job on removing popup ads it never occurred to me it was the problem. So now when I go on the internet I turn it on and when I'm done I have to turn it off to get mail. I did report it to AdGuard too because they have a bug in compatibility with this MAC OS and I bet it has the same problem with Big Sur too. Although, while doing a google search to research the Mail problem I did see a lot of links regarding this problem with Mail after updating the OS to Catalina dating a long time ago too, so I would have to assume something similar occurred back then with a 3rd party app running on their computer interfering with Mail too. I still think this problem had an established history that should have been spotted immediately and not take that much effort and still no solution. I ultimately resolved it myself by shear luck!
