Apple Music doesn’t remember where it left off

Apple Music doesn’t remember where it left off. I mostly use it while driving (plugged in via usb) but 9 times out of 10 I get back in my car, plug my phone back in and it’s forgotten where I left it. Doesn’t make a difference if it’s half and hour later or the next day…plug my phone in and bloody Ed Sheeran - A Team! If I open Apple Music first it opens on the playlist I left it on, plug it in and it then basically resets the app. What’s the point in ‘multitasking’ if apples own apps can’t do it? I never had this problem when I had Spotify. It’s one of many issues with Apple Music and why I previously switched to Spotify. I only went back to Apple as I can also use my iTunes library but will go back to Spotify if they aren’t ever going to fix it (I’ve seen many threads on this problem and never a solution)

Good afternoon liamrh85,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are having an issue with Apple Music while playing through your car stereo, and we'd like to help.

Are you referring to playlists that you've downloaded to your iPhone, or are you streaming Apple Music while you are driving? You may wish to change your favorite playlists to Shuffle so that you will hear a different song every time you start the Music app.

How to shuffle music on your iPhone

You can turn off the Auto-Play feature for Music on your iPhone:

If you are primarily playing music that exists on your iPhone, disable cellular usage for the Music App on your iPhone. Tap Settings > Cellular and tap the switch to turn Music off.

If the issue persists, please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

Hi liamrh85,

Thanks for clarifying the issue you are having with Apple Music. It might be helpful for you to speak with an AppleCare technical advisor about this. Click the link below, choose the phone number for your region from the list, and call when it is convenient. Refer the advisor to this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253274019 - so that you don't have to repeat the information you've already provided.

Hi

Thank you for your reply. I am streaming a mix of playlist and artists albums but I do not store  music on my iPhone.

Shuffling isn’t the issue as I usually listen on shuffle but it’s that it starts with the first alphabetical song in my library all the time, hence it’s always A-team.

I’m afraid I do not wish to turn off auto play as that wouldn’t be a resolve and it isn’t the fault of my car stereo as this used to happen in my old cars. However I do want it to auto play, I just want it to do it from where I left it. I’ve previously tried both Spotify and even Amazon Music and both can auto play where it left off with no problem, even when the app has been closed for days.

As I stream music I also require mobile data to be left on.

Unfortunately it’s a problem that Apple Music has had ever since it got released, on different iPhones and iOS and if you do a google search there’s many people with the same issue. It’s more an issue that the app basically opens as if it’s been closed and not just sleeping so it goes back to the homepage rather than where it left off.
