Moto G Power photo transfer to Mac Book Air

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air 13" to MacOS Big Sur version 11.6 and I am not able to offload pictures from either my android phone or my wife's android phone anymore. I can't remember what OS version I had previously, I think it was macOS High Sierra. All I had to do was use a USB cable from phone to laptop and slide down the top of the phone screen and tap PTP and the pictures would pop up and I would choose "Select All" on the laptop and they would transfer. Ever since the OS upgrade no photos pop up for transfer for either phone.

I've tried the Android File Transfer app to no success. I'm at a loss as to how to do the transfer would really appreciate help with this.

Hey there,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you're trying to connect your Android devices to your MacBook Air in order to offload pictures. We'd like to get you pointed in the right direction to assist.

Check out the information within this support article from Google's Support Page for Android: Transfer files between your computer & Android device - Android Help. There's a section for troubleshooting moving files by USB, too.

Best regards.

Scuz me,

The support type will vary by country/region, but typically you'll see either Chat or Phone support as an option. They won't be able to see the Apple Support Communities post here, unless you share it with them/tell them about what we tried here.

When you click the get Support link, you should select Mac > Mac apps > Photos > The topic is not listed. Then, describe your issue in that text box very briefly, such as 'Transfer photos from Android to Mac', then hit Continue. That's when you'll be presented with support options that are available in your country/region.

Alternatively, you can find local support numbers for your area here: Contact Apple for support and service

Take care!

Scuz me,

Got it. Thanks for the clear explanation.

Do you have a different cable and/or different port you can try connecting your device through? If so, give that a go to see if those options highlight once again vs. being grayed out. We'd also suggest restarting the Mac and your Android device to test once more.

If that doesn't change anything, your best bet is to have Apple investigate this further, as you should certainly be able to import photos from your device to your Mac. If needed, use this link to connect with Apple next: Get Support

Thank you for working with us here in the Communities. Take care!

No success. Did all as recommended. When I do Option #1 it only allows me to offload 1 picture at a time! That would take forever! Option #2 When I hook up USB cable and select File Transfer it does not give me an option to "Import All" photos from my phone to laptop, just the Photo library from laptop appears. No connection viewable for transferring from phone to laptop. Previously when I was running OS High Sierra all I had to do was connect USB cable from phone to laptop, slide down top of phone and select "PTP" and all the pictures would pop up and then I selected "Import All" on laptop. Now that I've installed OS Big Sur when I tap on "PTP" none of my phone pictures pop up for Import. What has caused the change with OS BigSur that transferring photos apparently won't work now? I would love to be able to "Import All" as it used to be!

Sadly, no. When I follow those instructions this is what happens. I connect phone and laptop by USB cable and the photos on the phone do not show up even after photo app opens up showing all the photos in my laptop library but none from my phone. Once I tap PTP on my phone by sliding the screen down I see the option for my phone under devices, it is grayed out as are the Import Selected and Import All. Tapping on them does not do anything. There is an option that says Open Photos For This Device that I selected and it did nothing, I unselected it and it did nothing. This is where the glitch is that is so confusing and frustrating because it used to work perfectly.
