iPhone 13 pro voice cuts and the other person can't hear me

I have an issue where my iphone 13 pro voice cuts out on speakerphone calls, not for me, but for the person on the other phone. Anyone else having this happen? The speaker grilles are clear.

So, after my trip to ATT did not help the issue, I went to the Apple store. The first diagnostic check did not show anything, so I called the “genius” on speakerphone and she was able to hear the problem for herself in person. After that a second diagnostic found the cellular radio was defective. They replaced the 5-week old phone at the Apple store. So far, (day 2), it seems to be working well. If you call Apple support or go to the store, have them listen to you on speakerphone. Worked for me.

So from my initial reply I turned of 5G and it helped but not completely removed the sound issue. The strange part is when I do have the sound issue i switch from handset to speaker then back to handset and the sound issue goes away. It seems like the software swaps the mic when you move the phone around and turning on the speaker resets it. If anyone can also try this and let us know if it works as a short term fix

See my post...I cut the holes out of my "Beat the heck out of it and drop it in the water case!"

No more problem for me.

I realized it is airtight...problem was the strips letting sound in and out, are still tough enough to withstand water submersion. I don't take my phone under water, I'm fairly positive if I dropped it I'd grab it immediately. The 13 series:

"Has a rating of IP68” which means it's fully protected from dust and can handle being

underwater for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters." "It's also dust proof"

I take mine in some fairly unfriendly environments, so when I cut the really small area over my speaker, it fixed my problem.

I really don't think it's a hardware issue. Unfortunately I have the same problem and I have investigated it thoroughly. If you want, you guys can do this same test just to confirm. Call someone while you're on speakerphone, However, make sure to never talk over each other. You talk without the other person interrupting at all, and you will see that you will be heard clearly. You'll only start getting cut off once there is a back and forth of conversation where your phone is hearing the other person and therefore triggering the faulty "noise cancellation feature" which ultimately cuts off your voice. I am also confident this is the reason why you are saying that you had different experiences with both phones. I think the experience was really the same, you just happened to have less of a back and forth conversation when you were testing it on the new one. This is also the reason why when Apple tells you to take a video to test the mic, there will be no issues. Because there is nothing wrong with the mic. This is an internal software issue and they have to enable the toggle feature that lets us turn off noise cancellation during phone calls like previous models. The reason why it only gets triggered when you are on speakerphone is because when you are not on speaker phone, the mics cannot hear the other person speaking so it doesn't trigger the "noise cancellation feature" by accident. I really wonder if a similar issue would arise if there is a ton of background noise and you are NOT on speakerphone. I'm 100% confident that this is the issue. It is not a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue, the mic wouldn't be any different if you weren't on speakerphone. It just wouldn't work at all regardless of it being on speakerphone. Guys out there, please check and confirm my findings so Apple can address this unbelievable issue. I don't even know what to do. I traded in my old iPhone for the iPhone 13 Pro from Verizon. At this point I can't even get my old phone back. And for the record, my friend who also has the iPhone 13 Pro has the same exact issue. So it's definitely not a one in a million issue. I'm fairly confident that all the iPhone 13 pros have this software issue. Some people just don't notice it because they don't really use speakerphone or they just don't pick up on the issue.

My wife’s iPhone 13 pro is doing the same exact thing on calls, I just took the case off and it seems to go away. I wonder if the case is causing an obstruction on the mic where it keeps cutting out. Like an audio gate in the software somehow. We’re going to order a different case and see if that helps. Her case is a fully enclosed one that includes a front screen protector.

Hi, I have exact same thoughts. I've bought 13 pro for my wife and she is actively using speakerphone during calls, so she noticed the problem fast. We did multiple experiments: reset settings, used without case. Pretty much everything mentioned in this thread. And nothing works. I can confirm that for us issues arrises only when my wife and the person she is on the phone, speak at the same time. I wanted to upgrade my Xr to 13 Pro Max also but until this issue is resolved not gonna spend a dollar.

The problem in my phone was due to the waterproof case I had put on it. Once I took that off my problem was solved, so not every Iphone 13 pro max has this problem. This indicates to me that it's a bad chip in the phone and they don't know how to fix it with a software update. They don't want to replace that chip or the iphone because that would be an expensive nightmare for them. I suggest: go to your closest Apple store, demonstrate the problem and demand a replacement. Probably won't work but you'll be making a more definate complaint that will lead to a resolution.

So one of the things my husband mentioned was the last time the edges were squared the antenna was there and there were issues with the initial models for this reason. He wondered if that is where the antenna is for this iPhone 13 and 13Pro and I found this, not only is the antenna on the edges but the 5G transmitter is the black clear box on the right side under the power button ie the issues are worse when there is a heavy cover - still not good w/o cover but worse with it on. https://unitedlex.com/insights/apple-iphone-13-pro-max-teardown-report
