iPhone 13 pro voice cuts and the other person can't hear me

I have an issue where my iphone 13 pro voice cuts out on speakerphone calls, not for me, but for the person on the other phone. Anyone else having this happen? The speaker grilles are clear.

Hello everyone.

i just want to share the solution i figured out which greatly helped me, hopefully it’ll be a big help to everybody struggling with the speaker problem; being not heard by the other party when using the speaker for calls.

during calls, slide down the top of your screen to open Control Centre. You will see the a setting “Mic Mode”, i saw in my setting that its “Voice Isolation” i turned it to wide spectrum or standard. And it immediately worked! Hopefully it will work. I have attached a photo of what im referring to.

cheers

Solutions to this iphone muffling and cut outs when you use your speakerphone have shown several remedies that fixed the problem for some, but not for others. These solutions have fixed this problem so far:

Update the iOS software on your phone to 15.2.1- Look in settings, general, software update.

Replace the SIM with the eSim ( I don't know how to do this)

Remove your case. Some cases block the microphone and speaker holes, especially if you are using a "waterproof" case. (This was my remedy and at least one other person on this thread.)

If there are any other solutions that have worked please reply. And, could somebody explain how to change the SIM to eSIM. Thanks and good luck all.

Also, there are people on this thread that have tried all these remedies and gone to Apple Genious Bars and/or talked to support and there problem was not solved so there may be some defective phones out there but there must be a lot of them and Apple hasn't acknowledged the problem exists yet.

I've just registered this issue on the link provided in here too, as this is just ridiculous it's been going on since the iPhone 13 was released last year. I am based in the UK.

I have a 13 Pro Max and my wife has the standard 13. I have a few friends and colleagues on various versions of the 13 and they ALL suffer from this issue on Facetime and Loudspeaker phone calls. I've tried everything suggested in this forum and nothing works, so it's definitely a hardware or software issue that Apple needs to address ASAP (or even acknowledge officially).

If there's no response in the next month or so, I will be returning both phones and advising others I know to do the same.

I bought the new iPhone 13 pro for 1729 !!! Euro and nobody can understand me on the phone and all people are bothered when I want to talk to them because they do not understand me. So people are annoyed and complain about my bad voice quality. Recently I was downhill skiing in the Austrian Mountains and i answered an incoming phone call while having strong wind on my Apple Watch and the other person said „oh !! Today I can understand you perfectly ! You fixed your phone issue?“ … I could have cried tears !!! It’s so ridiculous!! Even the stupid watch has a better voice quality than a 1,7k cell phone ! After my holiday I will call apple and i will return the phone if they don’t come up with a solution. It’s utter crap and totally useless. A phone you cannot use for making phone calls.. i use phones on loudspeaker since 30 years ! And now they break the most simple feature of that expensive product .. but hey! It takes great picture 😬

So I have this issue since september and I have been waiting for a fix since the release of this trash phone. I went multiple times to Apple for nothing, they always tell me to wait for an update and i feel like they are treating us like stupids.

After all of this I have made a conclusion,

I am not going to buy another apple device in my life. (my first iPhone was the iPhone 3G) Well done Apple.

I’m having the same issue. After spending another 300$ on commute and more than 25 hours of calls and communication I got my $2400 Cdn iphone 13 pro max changed to a new one to find the exact same problem. I have spoken to more than 20 apple employees in different departments and everyone tells me that they have no idea about the issue and it is one in a million bad apple even though mine is 2 bad apples in 2. This has been a horrible experience for me and my main use out of my cellular is having video calls on speakerphone so technically this phone is useless to me. BTW the two iphone 13pro max’s had the same issue but with different severity which brings me to the conclusion that this is definitely a hardware issue not a software issue. I’m forced to go through so much trouble to return mine this time. Im truly sad and frustrated at the same time.

I have the same issue too. I have been using Verizon sim, and by looking at replies in this thread, it is not specific to Verizon or ATT. When I went to the store, they mentioned that they have not heard of any such complaints, and it could be some app installed in my phone. Not sure, how they are saying that they haven't heard of this common problem in the 13 pro / 13 pro max models.

I had a chance to experiment with multiple iPhone 13 pro max’s and I found that mag safe cases makes this problem worse and none mag safe cases distort the sound less but the best case is no phone case at all but even then the problem still exist and different iPhone 13s are different in the severity. This definitely sounds like a design or hardware issue. I am not sure if iPhone 12 Pro max’s have the same position mic’s but this problem doesn’t exist for them.

You are 100% right. I have investigated the same issue thoroughly before I saw your post and that was the same conclusion I came to. Whenever the other person is silent, they can hear me clearly because the noise cancellation feature is not getting triggered by them because they are quiet. And that is also the reason why they can also hear me clearly when I am not on speakerphone. Because the mics don't pick up their voices when they talk. However, once I turn on speakerphone, they trigger the noise cancellation feature when they speak because the mics can now hear them and that's when I start getting cut off. I have a hunch that this is affecting all iPhone 13 pros. This is definitely a software issue. It cannot be a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue, you wouldn't be able to make regular calls properly. The video quality for audio would be poor. There's nothing wrong with these mics. This is a software issue. I wish they would just let us toggle off the noise cancellation feature. Such a bug out. I'm at a loss.

Hi, I have exact same thoughts. I've bought 13 pro for my wife and she is actively using speakerphone during calls, so she noticed the problem fast. We did multiple experiments: reset settings, used without case. Pretty much everything mentioned in this thread. And nothing works. I can confirm that for us issues arrises only when my wife and the person she is on the phone, speak at the same time. I wanted to upgrade my Xr to 13 Pro Max also but until this issue is resolved not gonna spend a dollar.

Hi.

I have the same issue. I have iPhone 13 pro and I cannot even have a proper phone call on a loudspeaker. The problem is that most of my phone calls or video calls are on the loudspeaker and with this issue, I cannot even have a simple phone/video call on my ~ $1500 phone! A basic basic basic feature of a phone!

I have no idea what should I do! Whenever the other side makes any noise, my sound will be cut and they cannot hear me at all!

because of this reason, I bring my iPhone 5s back just to have a phone call on a loud speaker! Why Apple doesn't do anything about it?

I want to give the iPhone 13 pro back to the store. i want my money back when I cannot even have a proper phone/video call!

iPhone 13 pro voice cuts and the other person can't hear me
