On your iPhone:

To turn off the default security setting that keeps Mail images from loading,

(Seems to be default so "spammers" don't get feedback on whether you've:viewed their messages.)

You might want to try going to Settings > Mail > messages > Turn on "Load Remote Images"

All the best :-)

I am now having the same problem. Mail content was fine yesterday and now all of the sudden it doesn’t download when I open an email, until I allow it in the warning box at the top of each email. I’ve tried following suggestions from others, earlier in this blog, but I don’t seem to have the options they say to select on my iPad nor iPhone. Did all this just happen with the latest software update?

I am using a Mac with 11.6.5. Currently, mail doesn't show anything in a message when the load remote content is selected under mail preferences. Not even the text. When I turn load remote content off in the mail preferences, I get the text. The message then gives an option to load remote content while showing the text. If I select it, the message is completely blank with links to content if I move the mouse over the area where the content could appear.

Hani_1979 I'm wondering if there's been an operating system update that has fixed the problem but I've also taken my virus checker and VPN off my computer and mobile which may be why. I was having so many problems that I set my computer back to factory settings TWICE and gradually adding everything back onto my computer instead of adding it via migration assistant. I don't know what's going on ...

If you have a Mac you don’t need a virus checker; all it does is slow down your Mac. As to VPN:

Something to think about→Don't use VPN services. · GitHub

There are two legitimate purposes for using VPN:

  • To allow access to a private network such as a school or business when you are not on site.
  • To allow access outside of a country with a repressive government that has restricted Internet access. (This has suddenly become more important)

Any other use is risky, and can lead to problems like the one discussed in this thread. VPN disguises your location by making you appear to be somewhere else in the world. But you usually can’t control that “somewhere else”, and if it is in a location that an app isn’t approved for the app won’t work. Plus the fact that the provider of the VPN knows everything about you and your location, as well as what sites you access through the VPN. So you are totally dependent on the VPN provider’s honesty. As a start, if the VPN is free, DON’T USE IT. The provider has to make money somehow, and if you aren’t paying them then they are selling your private data to make money. But even those that charge can’t necessarily be trusted. For example, a few years ago Avast was caught selling user browsing data. They claim they have stopped doing so.

You don’t really need VPN when using public Wi-Fi, because all communications between your device and the servers it accesses are end-to-end encrypted.

If you want VPN for privacy about the sites you visit, that’s not a good choice as discussed; instead you should download and use the TOR browser.

With iOS 15.2 for iOS/iPadOS and MacOS Monterey 12.2 and later Apple now has iCloud+ Private Relay, which is like a super VPN, except that it doesn't spy on you→About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

Thanks for the reply but the information is not helpful. Here's why:

My problem is about how to send an image in an email. I use phpmailer to send the email and I use a standard html file as the body. When chatting with apple support the reps (they are obviously not engineers) no little or nothing about the product that's useful for solving the problem. When speaking by phone to a rep it took over an hour to get him to finally agree that the problem appears to be a bug in the ios, although he's not sure. Anyway, it's been submitted to their engineers but haven't heard back. And finally, there is no support documentation for any kind of programming issue. The emails use to work fine but since IOS 15 they no longer get downloaded.

If you know how to solve this problem I would be delighted to hear from you.

If you lost all your email and you can’t see it by logging in to your mail provider’s webmail site the problem has nothing to do with your iPhone. If your email is still available in webmail you can restore it to your iPhone’s mail app. If your mail account with your provider has 2 factor authentication enabled you will need to follow their instructions to create an “app password”.
