Logic Pro 10.7 very slow on loading projects and plugins

After updating to 10.7 loading projects become extremely slow - especially while loading plugins. Each plugin takes a lot of time before starting with new one. It’s much much slower than previous versions.

also when inserting plugins in channel

strips - it takes a lot of time and rainbow ball of death frequently appears before plugin opens and gets displayed in insert slot.

is anybody else experiencing this?

Mac mini, macOS 11.6

I just got off the phone with Apple Support about this issue (a call I scheduled with their Pro Media folks yesterday). While I was on hold I started to do a little debugging.

I started with a fresh project with a 10-second blank audio recording. Then, I saved it and opened it back up. So far so good, nice and fast. Then, I added RVox, a Waves plugin. I saved and closed the project and tried to re-open it. Bingo. Slow!

So then I started searching the Internet for slow Waves plugins with Logic Pro. I came across something that said I should run "Waves AU Reg Utility" which basically scans your plugins and registers them as Audio Units. I ran that utility and it said it errored out, but when I launched Logic Pro again with that test project it opened up right away!

I then tried opening one of my projects that has been really slow. Zing! It opened up with no delay.

Then the Apple Support person came on the line and I told him that I think I had solved it. Fortunately he was nice enough to explain that ... if you are running on macOS Monterey, plugins will only work properly if they are registered as Audio Units.

He send me a link to a document that explains some things you can do to troubleshoot Logic. Hopefully this also helps someone else here. My projects are all opening nice and fast now. I wish I would have discovered this two months ago.

I'm having the same issue. It's extremely frustrating! My workflow is about 1,000% slower because of the crazy long lag times on everything. It takes over 10 seconds just to create a duplicate track (has been immediate on every other version). I'm currently working on a session that needs a gang vocal and the time it's taking just to set up all the tracks is more time than it usually takes to track and mix a full gang vocal. So ridiculous. Apple, PLEASE fix this. Seriously, this version was obviously not ready for release and needs some major overhaul.

I'm also experiencing extremely slow speeds after updating to 10.7 - I'm constantly seeing the spinning color wheel when doing normal tasks like scrolling through my project, hitting the space bar to play, etc. I have about 300 tracks, using mostly EastWest samples running from a Glyph Atom Pro Thunderbolt 3 external SSD. I have 96 GB of RAM on my iMac 27-inch 2019. Everything ran very fast and smoothly prior to this new version of Logic. It's really frustrating and very difficult to get any work done!

Bam. Super helpful man! Thank you

Interesting situation here: It opened up a particular session that I had to bypass plug-ins to open when running in Native M1 but in Rosetta it opened up in a snap - Progress is being made here.

That being said, when I opened a different, older session (that haven’t opened on my new M1 machine yet) from my intel 2019 intel MBP, logic crashed after 10 seconds of trying to load it before it even opened the project, in Rosetta.

When I tried loading that same session in native M1, it opened it no problem but then crashed in 2 seconds after the arrange window appeared. Some funky stuff happening.

Question: does running in Rosetta optimize perfomance the same as native M1? Is there a difference in perfomance between operating in either of them? I’d assume native M1 is better optimized for perfomance…

I don't think Apple monitors any of their forums seriously. They just react to support requests and even then the response is often rudimentary to say the least . All M1 Logic Pro users shaving an issue should send them a support request which might lead them to take this issue which is now going on for months seriously. My M1 with the same spec as you mentioned has just been shipped and I bought it especially to use with Logic without the need for a VEP server for my instruments. If it does not work I might just as well send it back as not fit for purpose.

Let us see I will start afresh with a new installation and all libraries freshly installed as well. I keep you posted as soon as I get it hopefully around the 10th. Cubase cyberweeks21 offers are still valid till 13 December. So if it does not work there is an alternative (with a learning curve unfortunately I am testing it but it is really different).....

Many people buy Mac’s because of the Logic Pro x and Final Cut Pro eco systems. (I know that’s why I came over from the PC side in 2019). Apple should really be paying attention to this thread. These are important products that keep the Apple brand strong and should be running optimally on their machines (they make and control both the hardware and software) which was a huge selling point for us musicians. Apple please address these issues and make speed a priority for Logic Pro when it comes to fundamental tasks such as opening projects, adding plugins to channel strips, and other tasks not mentioned here such as changing the output devices and buffer sizes (these tasks can also be painfully slow). We went Apple because we don’t want the technology taking up our time that can be better spent making music.

This same issue is happening for me, and I unfortunately can't go back to 10.6 because I have a brand new laptop that came with Monterrey / 10.7 on it. Is there nothing we can do? Sessions made on my old laptop that I open on this one take up to 10 minutes to load, way too much time when you're working in the room with a client. It would seem it's a conversion-to-Monterrey issue. Folks at Apple/Logic - any fix??
