Logic Pro 10.7 very slow on loading projects and plugins

After updating to 10.7 loading projects become extremely slow - especially while loading plugins. Each plugin takes a lot of time before starting with new one. It’s much much slower than previous versions.

also when inserting plugins in channel

strips - it takes a lot of time and rainbow ball of death frequently appears before plugin opens and gets displayed in insert slot.

is anybody else experiencing this?

Mac mini, macOS 11.6

I just got off the phone with Apple Support about this issue (a call I scheduled with their Pro Media folks yesterday). While I was on hold I started to do a little debugging.

I started with a fresh project with a 10-second blank audio recording. Then, I saved it and opened it back up. So far so good, nice and fast. Then, I added RVox, a Waves plugin. I saved and closed the project and tried to re-open it. Bingo. Slow!

So then I started searching the Internet for slow Waves plugins with Logic Pro. I came across something that said I should run "Waves AU Reg Utility" which basically scans your plugins and registers them as Audio Units. I ran that utility and it said it errored out, but when I launched Logic Pro again with that test project it opened up right away!

I then tried opening one of my projects that has been really slow. Zing! It opened up with no delay.

Then the Apple Support person came on the line and I told him that I think I had solved it. Fortunately he was nice enough to explain that ... if you are running on macOS Monterey, plugins will only work properly if they are registered as Audio Units.

He send me a link to a document that explains some things you can do to troubleshoot Logic. Hopefully this also helps someone else here. My projects are all opening nice and fast now. I wish I would have discovered this two months ago.

Heya. My M1 Mac mini using logic 10.6 was Wizz bang and super fast on huge mixes loaded up with all sorts of plugs. And that was in Rosetta. Best 1K I’d ever spent, getting the machine. 16GB Ram only and the world was my oyster. As soon as I upgraded to 10.7, BOOM down she goes. I’m in a kind of ****. I’m sure its a software issue and an issue of compatibility at that. When everyone is on the same page….whenever that will be… Things should fly. But what do we do until then?????

I'm having the same issue, as soon as I updated to 10.7 it was really noticeable how much slower everything was.

Loading plug-ins is incredibly slow, especially Slate Digital plug-ins...infinityEQ seems to be the worst for me. Also, inserting new channels or duplicating channels takes at least a minute to complete where 10.6 was almost instantaneous.

This problem has basically rendered my main working template useless, even importing tracks from project to project stalls the computer for a good amount of time.

Im beyond happy to see that I'm not the only one with this EXACT same problem I thought I was loosing my mind! M1 MacBook Pro 32GB RAM literally ANYTHING I threw at it in Logic was instant it was crazy how fast it was. I'm also running Logic in Rosetta like everyone else because none of the plugins will run native. I have tons and tons of plugins Slate, Arturia, iZotope you name it every single one of them was blazing fast running on Rosetta. My question to you guys is is there a way to downgrade if you didn't do a Time Machine backup? I can't find answers to this and I've even called apple tech support about this and they are acting like they have no idea what I'm talking about with this problem its beyond frustrating. This is really messing with my busniess its honestly embarrassing when clients come to my studio to record and everything I do takes minutes to even drag over a plugin.

On my 2021 MBP 16" pro max w/ 64 ram, Logic itself takes about 3 times longer to startup the app than my old imac with the same set of plugs. It's ridiculous how slow it is. I also has to set LP to use all 10 cpu cores to try to get stable even in small size projects. This slow startup and project slowdown is in both native mode and Rosetta mode. Anyway, I hope Apple bothers to take note of these issues reported here.

I have been testing my M1Max 64 GB RAM for a few weeks now and have no issues. In fact Logic, to my surprise without need to start in Rosetta, runs all my libraries both Universal and Intel based except some rare plugins. Kontakt as plugin with all Komplete instruments and effects works with 1 exception till now. A Machine FX is rejected by Logic at start up. My Komplete Kontrol keyboard works including light guide and button functionality also NKS for 3rd party libraries is working.

BBCSO Pro works perfectly. I tried a Rite of spring mock-up with more than 40 instances of full BBCSO instruments and it is ready for use in a few seconds and plays without CPU overloads or ticks and clicks.

Also the VEPPro plugin works despite it still being Intel based. The only major plugin I use which poses a problem is the VSL Synchron player. It does not work directly in Logic in M1 mode but it does work through VEPPro (running on the same MBP). I did not try VEP on an external Mac or PC yet as there was no need.

So it must be something specific with those instrument libraries.

Logic use on a m1 Mac is a step back in time. Issues abound. It's going to be a good while of house cleaning plug-ins and waiting and hoping that Apple helps on their end too. And the long startup time of the current logo whether it's native or Rosetta mode is rediculous. Other DAWs on the same platform open normally. One can only hope the next update will be thourough.

Same issue for me. Have tried all sorts, new projects, clearing and resetting channel strips, clearing AU cache etc etc. Nothing seems to work. For me it's plugins by PSP and Softube that seem to be the worst offenders (I don't own any Slate or Waves).

I have a gut feel this could be something to do with authorisation/ilok but I don't really have any evidence to back that up. Have tried both USB and machine-based auth on ilok.

I'm having this issue too. I had hoped it would be fixed in the 10.7.3 update, but apparently not. Very slow loading Slate/Soothe 2 and other third party plugins. Running Big Sur 11.6 on 2019 8-core i9 MacBook Pro with 64gig of ram. Between this and the latency problems introduced with Logic 10.6 update (delay compensation not working properly with Izotope and Melodyne), I have now reverted to using Logic 10.5 - some minor graphical weirdness, and flex-pitch is a bit buggy, but infinitely more useable than 10.7 for me at the moment. I hope this helps in terms of getting the problems fixed, many thanks

I'm having the same problem in Logic Pro 10.7, it takes forever to open a project, change the audio interface for input and output, or change the buffer size.

I can literally make coffee while I wait for Logic Pro to load. And this is on a 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro. This still image is what I'll see for 2-3 minutes if load a project or change the buffer size, i.e. the progress bar doesn't even move:

These extremely long loading times have definitely not always been the case. I cannot pinpoint exactly when it started, but half a year ago or so I did not have this problem on the same projects.

Is Apple working on this?

Wow, you guys have been talking about this 6 months ago and appears to be still an issue. Just got mac studio m1 max up and running which was a hella issues finding what plugins needed updating. My current problem is logic 10.7.3 crashes all projects made on older 2012 mac pro with 10.6 logic I think...current setup (which I bought the newest logic to be sure everything would go smooth :0) will only run new projects and in rosetta...slate, waves, izotope, kush etc. Logic won't open ANY old projects and thinking its the plugins; Logic should be smart enough to disable whatever plugins don't work (like it usually does) and ope the **** project.
