Home animation lagging in iphone xr ios 15

Hi, i've been experiencing lags every time i swpe up to close an app to go to the home screen. The phone freezes for a second (as it shows in the video) or it skips some frames looking really choppy. I have around 95gb of free storage and the battery health is 94% so my phone is not the problem, i already forced the restart and even restored it to factory settings, didn't helped. any recomendations?

No. Not at all! I tried to cleanly reinstall the entire OS even via DFU mode which is the deepest possible installation known to us. Nothing ever changed. This is not a bug in firmware installation to get rid of. The problem is in the firmware itself. Issue is gonna be there until it is specifically fixed by Apple themselves which I feel is not happening anytime soon.

But I can give you one thing. Enable 'raise to wake' & disable 'follow focus' and disable 'live text' in the settings. Although it doesn't make the issue disappear, this has reduced the issue vastly IMO.

iOS 15.2.1 is a God sent update for XR users like us. This swipe based lag/stutter is reduced to a healthy 90% after updating to 15.2.1. Almost not happening in my iPhone XR nowadays. I was actually hopeless till 15.2. But now I'm very very hopefully that the next week update of 15.3 would iron out this issue completely and bring us the 14.8 level performance rightfully back to our XR devices. 🤞

15.2.1 has definitely improved the stutter by a lot, but I do get some stuttering still when swiping up during more intensive applications like, "air visual" and my browser "firefox" (when on a more intensive website). I'm hopeful iOS 15.2.2 or 15.3 will really improve these glitches even more.

On a side note I just reinstalled iOS to see what would happen and the stutters and animations when swiping up are definitely smother but there still is the occasional stutter as always. The Xs Max is a great phone and the Apple a12 chipset is still more powerful than the google Pixel 6s' Tensor chipset by comparison benchmarks. So there is no reason this can't be resolved in the near future if Apple's team is already at work on it.

Something quite interesting happened to my iPhone today and don't know how to explain:

I was using my iPhone Xs in German language, and today I have changed it to my mother language, brazilian portuguese, and after this change all the hiccups and stuttering just stopped.

I'm using it for a couple of hours and so far everything is working perfectly.

I don't believe it's a placebo because I'm trying to stress it a lot to see any stuttering.

I have an iPhone XS Max with iOS 15.1 and it has optimal battery health. Not to mention, this iPhone also has the A12 Bionic chip found inside the XR as well. I have noticed occasionally lag when swiping up on more intensive apps. (The animation where the app returns to the Home Screen will almost get stuck in the process for a brief moment). But once I try to replicate the lag a second time the animation will be as smooth as ever.

I personally think it could just be an software optimization issue or a problem with core optimization on the A12 Bionic chip. Whichever of the two I hope Apple addresses this soon.

Tried to replicate the same issue in my wife's 12. I couldn't which obviously means that this is an OS optimization issue in XR. Guess either A12 Bionic - iOS 15 pair is being too aggressive with the battery saving by handing over the light weight tasks prematurely to the efficiency cores or it's not transferring the data quick enough from efficiency to performance cores to avoid the frame drop. Either way, l really doubt that this will ever be rectified as it affects only one old model iPhone which is going to be noticed and raised to the forums by far fewer people like us. Not sure if this issue is present in 11, X, 8 or 7. Hence, the chances are slim!!

Different phone of mine to compare. Just for comparation. I used to have two Xs Max at the same time which is 512 and 64. Did reset for those 2 phones and updated to 15.3 use same wifi. While 512 run very well no stuttering at all, at the same time the other 64 stuttered like i used old iPhone. It was not about internal storage of course because for sure both are fresh. I don't think it was software related. If it was, all phones with related ios version should experiencing the same feel. And Apple will mention it on each update regarding that. I think perhaps hardware related. For example on SE 2016 there are 2 chipset manufacturer Samsung and TMSC that has different characteristics. Samsung is more powerful but hot. TMSC is below Samsung's performance but cooler. For my Xs Maxs case, i think maybe there are different parts on each phone that we don't know what it is that responsible for kind of lag and bit unresponsive touch here and there like on typing with keyboard, etc. Lucky phone will have good software on top of its certain hardware and unlucky phone vice versa

Exactly! Currently on iOS 15.1. My XR, which has 92% of battery capacity and with moderate usage, drops exactly 1-2 frames while swiping up to go home from few apps like browsers (in iOS virtually all browsers are safari reskinned), camera, YouTube etc., Especially Safari!! Every single time I'm able to reproduce this swipe up lag. I tried literally every single remedy I could think of. Settings tweaks like turning off live text, tweaking touch accommodation settings, Soft reset, hard reset, settings reset, factory reset, clean install iOS via ipsw with backup restore with iTunes and even without backup restore, clean install of iOS via iTunes under DFU mode! Nothing resolves this issue. Absolutely nothing!! Couldn't understand what's causing this. Being a Sucker for performance, I couldn't tolerate this frame drop in my otherwise flying iPhone XR!!

Overall the UI is fairly smooth across the OS be it dark or light mode except for the swipe up gesture to go home or multi tasking in both modes from some apps especially Safari. I'm now testing the beta of next iOS in my XR. Will keep you guys posted on its progress. If I get to experience such lag or stutter in the way, I'll also report it to apple through the official feedback app for beta testers.
