how do i connect remote app to apple TV without original remote?

I no longer have the original remote for my apple TV (1st gen, the one with the aluminium remote), i normally use the remote app. However, after updating my phone to iOS 15, the app had forgotten my TV and now wants me to enter a code to connect to the app.

I have no way of connecting to my apple TV to enter the code on my remote app. how can i connect to enter the code?

and why did my remote forget my apple TV box after the update?

The Apple TV (3rd generation) needs a functional remote to help set up the software Apple TV Remote from Control Center.

For the Apple TV (3rd generation), your options are:

buy a replacement Apple Remote (aluminum);
temporarily borrow an Apple Remote (aluminum) to help set up the software remote;
restore the Apple TV and connect a wireless keyboard to help set up the software remote;
restore the Apple TV and connect the CiderTV Mac app to help set up the software remote.

The Apple TV (2nd generation) is not compatible with the software Apple TV Remote from Control Center.

For the Apple TV (2nd generation), your option is:

buy a replacement Apple Remote (aluminum).

The Apple TV (1st generation) was never compatible with the software Apple TV Remote on iPhone.
