delete the podcast app off macOS

MBP 2019 with macOS 11.5.2 installed.

For no apparent reason, the podcast app on my MBP will consume drive space at a rate of about 10MB per second until the resource is exhausted. I listen to podcasts on my phone and I don't even want the app on any of my other devices. I have signed the podcast app out of my apple id on the MBP, I've turned off automatic downloads, I have done literally everything I can do to stop this errant behavior and now ... something has to go. I hate to toss out BSD for Linux but I will if Apple can't resolve this.

The directory that is being downloaded to is /Users/<userid>/Library/Containers/com.apple.podcasts/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.nsurlsessiond/Downloads/com.apple.podcasts

The demon (spelled correctly in this case) is nsurlsessind

I consumes an INSANE amount of CPU which causes the fan to run all the time now and craps all over my hard drive.

Solutions?!? Let's find out.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

Current version is Big Sur 11.6 plus Safari 15.

Who knows, maybe that would fix the Podcast Application issue, without all the extra work.

yeah, tried a few more things and nothing helped until! I chmod 000 /Users/jpeabody/Library/Containers/com.apple.podcasts/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.nsurlsessiond/Downloads/ com.apple.podcasts.

Sure! I had to reboot to get all those PIDs to expire but once I logged back in the SSD that I over paid for was mines once again -- well most of it. The amount of system files that I can't seem to rid myself of are still piled up all over the place BUT since the podcast app doesn't have permissions to write to the drive, life just got a little better. Now to look for a new podcast app for my phone. I mean, hey! If I'm going to fire apple for making money off of me listening to podcasts -- why not go all out. After all, it was their buggy app that started this whole mess and it wasn't as if I even had a choice if I wanted it or not.

Moral of the story, if Apple software can't behave and you can't delete it. Just remove the privs to your hardware.
