How do I gain access to my old @mac.com email address? I tried resetting my password but it wants to send it to my @mac.com email address. Are there any alternative options to recovering? Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

See if you can get a Rescue or Notification email option. Link to contact Apple Support at the end of the 2nd article.
All mail for your me.com and mac.com accounts now goes to your icloud.com account. Apple Support tested that for me by sending an email to my me.com account and I got it at icloud.com. Furthermore, your password for these old email accounts is the same as the one for your Apple ID. I learned all this the hard way when transferring the contents of my old 8+ phone to my new iPhone.
You can see a list of your email accounts in Settings on your iPhone if you tap your name and picture at the top of Settings and then choose Name, Phone Numbers, Email.
