iOS 15.1 Calendar app is laggy and unreliable

When swiping between days, data often shows up as stale (events on the wrong day, or events at the "right" time but with wrong title).

Keeping the same day view open for up to 10 seconds seems to correct the issue (temporarily). This appears to be some kind of caching bug.

(This was *not* an issue in 15.0, 15.0.1 or 15.0.2. I have one MS Exchange calendar and three Google calendars.)

This has been reported by others as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSBeta/comments/pxyrz2/calendar_is_extremely_laggyunusable_ios_151_beta/

Same here with an exchange account. As soon as I remove the company exchange account, it works fine (iCloud only in calendar).

Removing and re-adding exchange account does not help.

I talked to someone at Apple Support. Here’s the fix that worked for me. Temporarily turn off the calendar in your microsoft exchange account. Go to home screen and delete the calendar app. Go to the Apple App Store, then search and download the calendar app again. Go back to the exchange account and enable the calendar again. All my meetings showed up again.

Yes, it’s been a huge disappointment. I talked to Apple support today and they instructed that I should delete the Apple Calendar app from the home page, go to the App store and download it again. I first went to Settings and disabled the Calendar downloads from the Microsoft Exchange server, then after downloading the Apple calendar, I re-enabled the exchange server calendar. While not perfect, my appointments now show up and there’s a slight lag when navigating from one day to the other. Closing and reopening the “new” app fixes temporary freezing. But it’s MUCH better than it had been heretofore, this.

I have had same issue with iPhone 8 and iOS 15.1. I isntalled Finnish calendar and it works fine. After some days I uninstalled the iOS calendar app. Reinstalled iOS calendar app back after some days and now it seems to be working.

Tried and reinstall everything on the phone and restore te backup prior to this and it dint help. So reinstalling only the calendrar app was a quite simple solution.

I found that uninstalling and reinstalling the calendar wasn’t a long term solution, but maybe yours will be better, my husband read on a post here (and he’s been doing it) was to, believe it or not, switch back and forth between dark and light modes. I’ve also downloaded the Outlook app from the app store, and I like the calendar better since it shows exactly what my appointments are in month view rather than just dots.

I've been having severe lagging issues since I installed 15.1 in early October. I tried most suggestions, nothing worked. I just decided to see if deleting recurring meetings might help. I had an invitation to weekly zoom meeting on my calendar w/link to zoom log in. I delete this recurring weekly meeting and so far the lag has disappeared. Not sure why this would make a difference but I'll keep checking on post again in a few days w update on responsiveness.

This issue is devastating to those of us that live by our calendars.

That aside, I’ve found that just tilting your phone to landscape, which shows the split view of your day on the left and an individual meeting details on the right, reloads the view and “most of the time” got me the correct events.

This same view works on iPad too, but you have to select Day view instead of Week or Month to get this same view on an iPad. On my iPad I can select Day view and my events show, select Week mode again and they all disappear.

Doesn’t work for me every time, but a lot better than it was. Still needs to be fixed BIG TIME.

I’ve had the same problem since updating to iOS 15.1 and it affects both my iPhone and my iPad. Actually, the problem is getting worse by the day. As of today, I cannot use the calendar app at all. When I open it, it takes anywhere between 5 to 10 seconds to show something, if anything. In many cases the app shuts down by itself. In other, the majority of the cases, the app opens but I cannot manipulate it (change days, open events, create events, etc.). It is a pain in the neck…

It’s a total joke. Apple arrogance !! They are fully aware and dragging their feet whilst many of us are screwed because of their poor testing and release mgmt of upgrades. Bunch of twats

i have had 3 apple engineers on the phone and non of them have a clue.

does anyone know how we can get this escalated to the public domain which should damage apples reputation for their lack of professionalism. ??

I tend to stick to Samsung, partially because apple doesn’t listen/ care, and partly because I just like how Samsung looks and works. There are also MANY features that iPhones don’t have, like reverse wireless charging for example. You can place two Samsung phones together, and the one on the bottom will charge the one on top. (Samsung Galaxy S10 or newer)

the calendar app on my iPad mini (my first, and last apple device) is working fine.

BUT,I don’t have anything in the calendar, which may, or may not make a difference. I’m on the latest version of iOS just like you other guys, and everything is good. (Or, the best that you can get from apple, which isn’t all that good.) I will always be a Samsung guy.
