macOS Monterey finder spring back horizontal scrolling

I have Monterey installed. Now there is a funny Finder behaviour where when scrolling horizontally in column view it will spring back. I attached a GIF.

Anyone else having this issue? How did you fix it?

Also, I noticed that the Back keyboard shortcut in Safari ⌘[ is not working only on Apple Communities. Is that happening with anyone else?

I have been noticing a load of little behaviours like this.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I still can't believe this still hasn't be solved. The only work around for now is to click on folders as I scroll to the left so the preview pane doesn't bounce back, or to use the left arrow key to navigate. I upgraded from Catalina to Monterey in December and I've had the issue from day 1; curious if anyone with a new macbook whose first iOS was Monterey has the same issue.

This is easily the most annoying of a long list of bugs that are in Monterey.

I do experience lots of behaviours that may have the same origin – It seems as though the programs refresh randomly or maybe get indexed all the time. If I have the folder open for a while I can scroll back and it takes quite a while longer for it to jump to the highest selected level.

Another issue I have with contacts – I cannot enter a new contact as it keeps refreshing an my new contact window is gone before I can finish it.

In calendar when I add new calendars it will refresh and be untitled before I can name it. (Although I cannot reproduce that right now, but observed it a couple of times)

In mail (which I have on a second screen) I see the inbox being reloaded from time to time out of the blue (not refreshing to get new mails just everything is gone for a split second before it comes back up). It's annoying there, too, when you are reading in the depth of a conversation and suddenly you are kicked out again.

Somehow I feel this is all related as it all is a reload/rebuild kind of behaviour. And it really spoiled the excitement of the new MBP...

I'm having the same issue on 3 different machines, a Late 2014 iMac, a 2018 iMac, and a Late 2015 Macbook Air. It only seems to be an issue in Column view. Not only is it jumping horizontally across the window to the top file, but it also widens my columns to unnecessarily wide panels. Restarting DOES NOT FIX this issue, as mentioned by WEBundle_xyz. I've read some temporary fixes related to the Trackpad settings, but that seemed to only last temporarily and my main two machines use mice as opposed to the trackpad.

WEBundle_xyz also mentioned a sound issue as well. I'm only today experiencing that for the first time, I was connected to a Bluetooth device this morning for audio, and it would only play through my built-in speakers, as opposed to the Bluetooth device. Wound up having to restart my computer for it to connect to Bluetooth.

Hoping Apple will address this issue, as I haven't seen anything like this happen in the 15 years I've owned Apple computers.

I'm not sure who's responding to who, but has anyone tried my technique of going to the OS drive or folder and then back? When I have trouble with my external USB data drive, I 'launder' it by clicking onto my OS drive, then back after a few seconds, and that clears it up.

I suspect this has something to do with poor hard drive / file management by Finder but I know only enough to be dangerous.

As mentioned above 12.2 did not fixe the problem it just kinda hid it better. When I'm in a folder far right and scroll to the left it does not jump back right away – which is an improvement over the previous state that made working in column view absolutely impossible for me – it does jump back to the far right at some point, though if you just leave it be. It does take considerably longer to do so compared to 12.1

Or is that just me?
