I have Monterey installed. Now there is a funny Finder behaviour where when scrolling horizontally in column view it will spring back. I attached a GIF.
Anyone else having this issue? How did you fix it?
Also, I noticed that the Back keyboard shortcut in Safari ⌘[ is not working only on Apple Communities. Is that happening with anyone else?
I have been noticing a load of little behaviours like this.
Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
Did not try that technique. But seriously should we have to jump through hoops and come up with work arounds for something that was actually working well in 2005? Hoping that the 12.2 update makes this all go away
You're right. I was sitting at my computer this morning, thinking _supermaniac has no idea what they're talking about. And then, BAM! Happened again and now won't stop. APPLE! GODDAMMIT, FIX THIS, PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!
After two updates, you haven't fixed this issue, Apple!!! I was so excited to see version 12.2.1 come out and thought for sure you would have sorted this mess out. But no.
Make no mistake. THIS IS A MAJOR IRRITANT AND AFFECTS WORKFLOW IN A MAJOR WAY!!! FIX THE GODDAM BUG!!!
No idea, but I'm tired of waiting. I've put off downgrading back to Big Sur. I'm so mad I've been forced to do this. I'll think twice before buying another Apple product if this is the direction their customer service is going.
Almost a week into downgrading and I'm still dealing with "Spring-Back Anxiety." Every single time I dig into my subfolders, I wait for the spring-back effect. I had dealt with it for so long that the fear has become engrained in my brain. Thanks for that, Apple.
I'll be sticking to Big Sur for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, the next day the issue with horizontal scrolling (and sometimes even vertical scrolling!) in Finder column veiw was back.
I'm looking forward to downgrade macOS soon as this issue is keep making me anxious ;(
Hi guys, just to let you know that I've started to see this issue also outside Finder, for example in Lightroom or on a weTransfer page, of course not all the time but just randomly.
again let's hope Apple decides to do something about it

No, it did not fix the issue. Just had the finder spring all the way to the right and when clicking into a file name to alter the name it jumps back to a non editable state at least two to three times before it will allow me.
Meanwhile Garage band was updated. Yeah, that matters. Apple seriously what are you doing?
I am having many issues with Monterey, even after having the Apple Store reinstall Monterey thinking it was a bad install on my part.
On start up the Monterey wallpaper cuts in and out.
My dock hangs up on shut down.
All of my folders don't sort by "date added", I prefer that so the latest addition to a particular folder was always on the top left corner in "Icon" view.

Thank you Karhmen for that, it appears to be working. Unfortunately you then have a pretty wonky scrolling experience. But it's better than the infuriating and nearly useless folder navigation jumping.
I'm new to a forum like this. Is it common for Apple to pay zero attention to issues posted here? Because last night they yet again sent an update for a bunch of non-essential things and there seems to be no interest or even ownership of the fact that this is a major bug in their blessed "new" operating system. So disappointing.
Clearly they do not.
And while the scrolling without inertia does fix the issue (as best as I could tell) it makes websites and anything that requires scrolling a tedious experience. I actually prefer tabbing back to folders to the left with the arrows over a janky scrolling function :/
True!. I work with Macs since they were practically invented and I never experienced a problem like this one ever, but hey! they are the best machines in the world and Apple customer services just rocks! they response immediately, in my own experience.
Hi cshaddock, oh yes, indeed it's happening in Monterey... it's as bad as it gets, and nobody at Apple seems to care.
We must be the only ones to navigate the Finder in Column View...
I don't know about Ventura, but we'll see in a few months... I'm tired of this bug, honestly.
Hi Shutupandance, can you please speak with Apple once more, to offer that some of us here in this thread can maybe... beta-test the "fix"? I personally would love to give direct feedback to Apple, as I've been suffering from this "stolen focus" issue in the Finder's Column View for ages...
I am not sure they are fully aware of the breadth of this bug, of how profoundly annoying it is to have some daemon clicking and tabbing in the Finder while I am working...
