AirPods 3 High Pitched noise.

I just got the new AirPods 3 and a very high pitched ringing/rattling noise comes out of the right AirPod only when no sound is playing.

Is that normal?

Would this be a software bug or could it be hardware related?

I only have them connected to my iPhone 11 if that helps.

Thank You.

Same issue here. When not connected to any devices, connected to an iPhone 13 pro, or connected to a MacBook Pro I experience this high pitched crackling sound in the right bud.

The noise stops as soon as music is playing or I’m on a call.

It’s tough to tell, but the issue looks fairly prevalent. Anecdotally most others who posted on Reddit and MacRumors have gotten replacements to have the same issue. Very few on such posts say they have no problems, however not everyone can hear high pitched noises so there’s that. For the record, I returned mine because I have AirPods Pro already and they just work, on top of the noise cancelling. I believe Apple engineering likely knows about this and is probably starting work on a software update. Previous versions of AirPods have had similar problems, so I think it’s just a waiting game, so decide on whether you want to wait or not. I did think AirPods 3 had the best sound profile yet though!

I'm having the same issue. The first pair I received starting having the high pitched sound only with the right AirPod. I noticed that the firmware was 4B61 when I checked. I contacted Apple and had a replacement pair sent to me. I checked the replacement pair as soon as I got them and the firmware was 4B52, and I didn't seem to hear the high pitched noise at all during the first few minutes. I listened to some music then paused it and the high pitched noise began again only with the right AirPod. I checked the firmware again and it had updated to 4B61. Resetting to factory settings does not help the issue. The first pair I received were assembled in Vietnam and the replacement pair were assembled in China so the assembly location doesn't seem to have any bearing on this issue.

Hey!

I have the same problem! Background noise in the right earpiece is constant. It is very noticeable and becomes unbearable when the earbuds are not playing sounds or music! The next day after the purchase, I took them to a store that is an authorized reseller. At the moment I am waiting for a response from the Apple service. Has someone already exchanged headphones with such a problem in Apple?

Not sure what to do, and feeling pretty hopeless about this problem after reading so many replies on this thread. The “Background Noise” fix stops the high-pitched squealing, but not the crackling sound. I’m experiencing this with the right bud only. I can’t take it and won’t be able to use these. Apple, please help.

UPDATE: for me was a return, since it was in the return period and get them again, once there is an official fix, because the risk that if is hardware issue, specially seeing that is in the right, and that the source doesn't matter, like others say, to me too, I can connect them to different devices and same thing. So my suggested solution is return it before you can't do it that is a period of 14 days.

I am also experiencing the same issue. Have just purchased my second pair as a replacement but am still having this issue so it’s clearly an issue Apples end that they need to sort out. I’m honestly quite annoyed because i’ve now spent £340 on faulty airpods

Your original purchase was covered by Apple's 14 day return (no reason needed) policy, and would also have Apple's standard 12 month warranty against manufacturing defects. Your original purchase would have been covered by either or both of these options so (unless you managed to lose or destroy the original AirPods) you had no reason to buy a replacement.

If you are telling the truth about having "just purchased" and found defective then you should contact Apple Support and arrange to get support direct from Apple's paid support staff.

The first pair of airpods were purchased through BT meaning the refund hasn’t gone through straight away so i decided to purchase the airpods directly from the apple store instead and still have faulty goods which was why i had to buy 2 pairs. I don’t appreciate being called a liar when clearly a lot of people are having the same issue and there is obviously a problem with the product that needs to be resolved.

Nobody called you a liar. However, the just purchased point is very important particularly in relation to the 14 day return/refund/replacement period. I have given the advice, now I will say it again. Contact Apple Support and arrange hands-on inspection by Apple's support team. Stop wasting your time here, because whining about it will not fix the problem or get a working replacement. Ideally (if practical) you need to arrange a Genius Bar in-store appointment so you can test any replacement before accepting it.

Got My AirPods on the release day and had the right earbud producing the high frequency sound when no music playing, like everyone else here.

Went to apple store and they gave me a replacement for both buds (they found left had charging issues).

New buds are worse. Both earbuds have high frequency when no music playing. Plus the right bud also makes a constant buzzing sound that I cannot get rid of, even if I play music. Requested an apple care express repair and 8 days later I still haven’t received the 3rd pair.

AirPods 3 High Pitched noise.
