iOS 15.1 still doesn't fix carplay issues.

Carplay still doesn't work consistently after update to iOS15. and update to iOS15.1. Most of the time, it doesn't connect. When it does connect, it soon disconnects. A couple of times it froze the entire car onboard system. Why on earth has Apple released a major system updates and two minor subsequent updates with so many issues? I never had any issues before with iOS14.xx Many rely on Carplay for navigation.

I do see that graphic and I see my car listed. It is identical between the 7 & 13 Pro. All settings are identical, both phones worked at these settings. The settings have not been changed, and all of a sudden the 13 decided not to work with my VW anymore as far as car play is concerned. It still connects to the car via Bluetooth but CarPlay only works with a cable on my VW. The 13 is now recognized as a USB device somehow, but it is no longer recognized as an iPhone. It is a complete mystery, at least to me.

In the past I have had issues connecting with the iPhone 7, but that was easily fixed by either rebooting the car or the phone, or sometimes both. And is was rare.

Thank you for those suggestions. I knew the settings were correct but double-checked to make sure. Siri is active and I do not have Screen Time restrictions enabled. When I activated my 13 Pro I "mated" it with the 7 and it ported over all data and settings. I realize there are functionalities in the 13 that the 7 doesn't have. But when you google the CarPlay issue the problem seems to be rather specific with the iPhone 13. If this takes longer to resolve I might just get a 2nd SIM card for €5 per month and use my iPhone 7 for CarPlay. But I am sure the issue will be resolved in a future software update.

Have a nice weekend and again, thank you for your help and interest in this issue. :-)

I’m having the same problem. It’s really annoying. Here are the issues I’ve noticed on my iPhone 13 using CarPlay connected thru a usb cable:

1. When I open Facebook or any other app on my iPhone while an active call is being routed thru CarPlay to my cars speakers and microphone, the audio stops working and I can’t hear the caller anymore, the caller also can’t hear me. I have to turn on the iPhone speakerphone to regain communication with the caller. If I receive or place another call before unplugging and reconnecting the iPhone to CarPlay the same problem persists.

2.Sometimes CarPlay is unresponsive when first connecting my iPhone and I can’t move the cursor between the icons as it seems it has stalled. To resolve I have to disconnect the iPhone from the USB cable and try again.

please fix these issues!!!

The more painful is inability to connect via Bluetooth to my car. The sound is breaking and has a lot of static. The only option left for me is to completely wipe the phone and restore it with iOS 14.1.

I read somewhere online that it works.

will do that this night and give you guys an update.

The iOS 15.1 with all its beautiful fonts is just a nightmare

I have gone to the iconnect store in Lagos to fix this issue and was told to wait for the next update. My car is a Mercedes E350 2011 model.

the Bluetooth connection is currently crappy, as a result I can’t navigate with google maps like before.

please if anyone at apple can read this, let’s have an update ASAP that addresses this problem. Thank you

I have two iPhone 11’s, one personal, one work, both upgraded to iOS 15.1. My personal iPhone CarPlay has been rendered useless in both my personal vehicle and work truck while my other iPhone works just fine in both vehicles, even with doing a factory reset of both vehicles and doing all those Bluetooth on/off, phone restart tricks and resets for the phone.

I just had the same thing happen this week. 2021 BMW X5 w/iDrive 7 Professional: Car Play was perfect, connected as soon as I got in the car (connects wirelessly). A few days ago I updated my iPhone 12 Pro Max to 15, then the other day 15.1.1 and since then Car Play won't work. I have done every fix recommended, except reset my phone and car to factory settings and I won't do it; I shouldn't have to. My phone shows car connected by Bluetooth, but Car Play connection fails, then I get "Retry". The car tries again, same thing. If music starts to play, it's only through iDrive. Trying to make a hands free call car says "No Phone Connected" but it is according to the Bluetooth in the phone's settings. Music will play but can't use hands free in the car. I was able to get Car Play back twice but as soon as the car is turned off Car Play is lost again. Car Play was perfect until iOS 15.xx. Car's software is the latest and has been the same for some time. There are many reports on the internet about Car Play issues with iOS 15. I'm going to try and roll my phone back to iOS 14. I hope Apple will have a fix soon.

I don't think there's any solutions yet. But I'm still trying to find out what's causing this erratic behaviour. Of course Apple messed up here. But it looks like they messed up trying to make things better. It has something to do with holding a connection long enough for CarPlay to continue working. Here's something that I found out recently. If I just start my car and put it immediately to drive, the wireless CarPlay works. Otherwise, it doesn't. I mean, at this point, I'm starting to believe prayers are more effective than any real solution that's out there.

Hi so I had the same issue. It was driving me nuts because I just moved to a new town and NEED navigation. One of the earlier posts said that they reset the car back to factory settings. Since I had nothing too customized on my car I didn’t mind to try. And that worked. I haven’t had problems after that. On the car screen just reset. It’ll ask if you are sure and you will lose all your settings. But just try that before you get a Samsung.

Ever since I updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 15.1.1, Apple CarPlay intermittently doesn’t run on my Sony XAVAX1000 Receiver when I connect the USB cable. I either have to reconnect the cable once or several times or restart the engine on the car and then connect the cable again for Apple CarPlay to run. I tried another Apple lightning charger cable and had the same problem. I tried two other iPhones on iOS version 15.1 and 15.1.1 and had the same problem but when I tried my iPhone 7 on iOS 15.1 no problems at all and it connected every time. Therefore I believe it’s something to do with iPhone 13 and iOS 15.1.1. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix for this from Apple? Does IOS 15.2 fix this? I’m very cautious about just upgrading to another iOS version as it may fix one problem and break another as that’s what happened when I upgraded from 15 to 15.1.1 to resolve a storage calculating problem but then it caused the problems that I’m currently having with CarPlay.

My problem is similar, but I don't think that iOS 15.1.1 is the issue. My iPhone 13 Pro stopped working all of a sudden with my VW (wired connection), even without any software change, but while running iOS15.0. My iPhone 7 connects just fine running the newest OS (15.2), although there is no SIM card installed. The upgrade on my 13 to 15.2 did not fix the issue. The car recognizes my 13 as a UBS1 port attached device but there is no connection to CarPlay. Reconnecting and rebooting the phone or car or changing the cable doesn't make any difference. I have not tried resetting the car or phone. That is too much hassle. The built in navigation unit works well enough and for long distances out to the boonies with bad cell coverage I prefer a Garmin as a backup anyway. I might just get a 2nd SIM card for use with my iPhone 7 to cover all the bases. Redundancy is the key to flexibility...

Sony XAV-AX8000 and AX5000 head units (latest firmware) in Jeep and RV, both wired connections. Pro Max 13, IOS 15-15.2. Neither would recognize CarPlay, BT worked fine and phone would charge while connected. Reset, reboot, etc and nothing worked. Just now disabled some settings turned on by Apple in Handoff, rebooted and both connect perfectly now. General>Airplay & Handoff>Auto Airplay to TVs (never) and Transfer to HomePod (off). It’s only been a day, but seems to be working fine now.

iOS 15.1 still doesn't fix carplay issues.
