iOS 15.1 still doesn't fix carplay issues.

Carplay still doesn't work consistently after update to iOS15. and update to iOS15.1. Most of the time, it doesn't connect. When it does connect, it soon disconnects. A couple of times it froze the entire car onboard system. Why on earth has Apple released a major system updates and two minor subsequent updates with so many issues? I never had any issues before with iOS14.xx Many rely on Carplay for navigation.

Hi All - I had similar issues with my Peugeot 3008. Here are steps I took to solve it (for most o the time)

  1. UnPair Phone BlueTooth wise (forget) and Settings -> General -> CarPlay -> forget
  2. Update the Car Multimedia to the latest versions possible - you can download for free from Peugeot website and create a USB key to flash update it. Read the docs carefully. do *NOT* mess this up or you will have to go service/dealer.
  3. Reset Multi Media (NAC) System to factory defaults. you can find it in system settings. Bluetooth and Radio station data gets erased.
  4. Pair Phone for BlueTooth via pressing the Car's Multi Media system key with the Phone icon. The car name now show as PSA RCC BT (instead of Peugeot)
  5. Connect Lightning Cable to Phone to enable CarPlay (mine is wired not wireless) - don't touch anything (car wise) while u do it. No need to press Speech activation on the wheel. It will ask you on the phone if you want to allow CarPlay even if phone is locked - I allowed this but later on found this can causes sporadic issues.
  6. Disable Allow CarPlay when Locked: iPhone -> Settings -> General | CarPlay | <CARNAME> and turn off Allow CarPlay when locked. Unlock your phone before you connect the iPhone to the car (no biggie)...

Important: I noticed that sometimes CarPlay won't be detected. Looks like the Car's Multi Media System has an issue here.

In this case reboot it ;-) - Disconnect the cable from the iPhone, then Press and HOLD the car's multi media system key with the Musical Note (i.e Music/Audio Source) and the Multi Media system will reboot. Wait for the car to connect BT wise and then try CarPlay again.

As of today I get much better success connecting the phone to the car and get CarPlay to work.

  • This has been tested on Firmware version 093 - 30/7/21 of the multimedia system of my Peugeot 3008...
  • Reboot of the multi media system as mentioned above always get CarPlay to work again if for some reason it's not detected.

Cheers

Tal

It sounds like you're having issue with CarPlay. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

It looks like you're coming from the article: If you need help with CarPlay

Those would be the best steps to take for this issue. If that hasn't helped, we'd recommend contacting Apple Support for assistance here: Get Support

Thanks!

I have a '21 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my wife has a '19 VW Atlas. CarPlay in both vehicles worked fine prior to me upgrading my iPhone 12 Pro to a 13 Pro. For her, it was upgrading her iPhone 12 to iOS 15. Both phones are updated to 15.1, which didn't help. The problems with the phones disconnecting and "Device Not Supported" are intermittent. So to ask support for help is a waste of time because I'm sure it will work when they look into it. I called support and logged the issue and they asked if I wanted to bring it in. Were they really going to check out our vehicles to test it? We have reset the CarPlay and changed cables (made sure cables are Apple OEMs). A google search shows that this is a wide-spread problem affecting many users. For Apple not to address this is wrong. Like on user on this post said, they rely on it for navigation. Of course it happens while driving and it becomes a safety issue when you're trying to fix it (I know, shouldn't be doing it while driving). I guess I don't understand how they can break things like this from phone to phone, iOS to iOS. Product quality has gone down in recent years but they still insist it's the best device ever. Apple needs to fix this if they want to claim that title! Anyway rant over.

I just had the same thing happen this week. 2021 BMW X5 w/iDrive 7 Professional: Car Play was perfect, connected as soon as I got in the car (connects wirelessly). A few days ago I updated my iPhone 12 Pro Max to 15, then the other day 15.1.1 and since then Car Play won't work. I have done every fix recommended, except reset my phone and car to factory settings and I won't do it; I shouldn't have to. My phone shows car connected by Bluetooth, but Car Play connection fails, then I get "Retry". The car tries again, same thing. If music starts to play, it's only through iDrive. Trying to make a hands free call car says "No Phone Connected" but it is according to the Bluetooth in the phone's settings. Music will play but can't use hands free in the car. I was able to get Car Play back twice but as soon as the car is turned off Car Play is lost again. Car Play was perfect until iOS 15.xx. Car's software is the latest and has been the same for some time. There are many reports on the internet about Car Play issues with iOS 15. I'm going to try and roll my phone back to iOS 14. I hope Apple will have a fix soon.

I don't think there's any solutions yet. But I'm still trying to find out what's causing this erratic behaviour. Of course Apple messed up here. But it looks like they messed up trying to make things better. It has something to do with holding a connection long enough for CarPlay to continue working. Here's something that I found out recently. If I just start my car and put it immediately to drive, the wireless CarPlay works. Otherwise, it doesn't. I mean, at this point, I'm starting to believe prayers are more effective than any real solution that's out there.

My problem is similar, but I don't think that iOS 15.1.1 is the issue. My iPhone 13 Pro stopped working all of a sudden with my VW (wired connection), even without any software change, but while running iOS15.0. My iPhone 7 connects just fine running the newest OS (15.2), although there is no SIM card installed. The upgrade on my 13 to 15.2 did not fix the issue. The car recognizes my 13 as a UBS1 port attached device but there is no connection to CarPlay. Reconnecting and rebooting the phone or car or changing the cable doesn't make any difference. I have not tried resetting the car or phone. That is too much hassle. The built in navigation unit works well enough and for long distances out to the boonies with bad cell coverage I prefer a Garmin as a backup anyway. I might just get a 2nd SIM card for use with my iPhone 7 to cover all the bases. Redundancy is the key to flexibility...
