iPhone 13 Pro loses bluetooth connection to car 2-8 minutes after starting a phone call

I recently purchased a new iPhone 13 Pro (then exchanged for an iPhone 13 Pro Max) to replace my iPhone XR. Here is the info on the problem I am seeing for your developers:

Hardware: iPhone 13 Pro Max, running iOS 15.0.2

Car: 2016 Toyota Avalon

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start Car
  2. Allow phone to connect with car via bluetooth.
  3. Start a phone call
  4. Connection between the car and phone fails anywhere from 2-8 minutes after the call starts.
    1. The phone call continues on the phone, but the car thinks the call has ended. After this point bluetooth functionality no longer works properly until I restart the car.

Other details:

- The phone has no issues playing bluetooth audio to the car. Issue only happens on phone calls.

- My old iPhone XR did not have this problem, but was not running iOS 15.

Steps I have taken to fix the problem:

  1. Stopped/started bluetooth service on iPhone
  2. Enabled then disabled Airplane mode on iPhone
  3. Re-paired the iPhone to the car after forgetting bluetooth settings on both devices.
  4. Restart iPhone
  5. Force restart iPhone
  6. Updated software on car
  7. Reset all settings on iPhone
  8. Disabled 5G (settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings -> Voice & Date = LTE)
  9. Exchanged my iPhone 13 Pro for an iPhone 13 Pro Max, still have the issue

The iPhone is unusable for calls in my car which is really frustrating. Hopefully someone out there has seen something like this and has a solution/workaround. Or maybe this will make it to the developers and they can try and fix the issue.

I recently bought an iPhone 12 and it worked flawlessly in my 2019 Tundra. Ever since I updated to 15.1.1 yesterday my truck will drop Bluetooth calls in around 1 to 2 minutes. Un freaking real. It worked without one single hiccup before this update and now it is literally unusable. Please fix this Apple. You clearly know it’s an issues at this point and have done nothing. I guess if you have a iPhone and drive a Toyota you are out of luck. Is that what I’m understanding out of all of this Apple?

The good news is I am currently working with apple to share my IPhone 13 analytics and blue tooth information with them.

From Tuesday 11-30-2021 PM they monitored my phone to Wednesday 12-1-2021 AM .

Results: 20 instances with screenshots of duration of phone calls, (some less that 30 secs apart), on LTE or 5G & time, I uploaded the analytics to them yesterday morning.

Today I received an email asking if Tuesday 12-12-21 they could contact me again to provide more analytics.

They ARE aware of this issue and are trying to get more information to fix this issue. She also told me that they have other iPhone 13 users doing the same. Hopefully it won’t be long before they have a fix!!

info: my issues are dealing with connecting to a hands free Blue Parrot head set, Apple airpod pros , and my 2018 Toyota Tundra.

The quick fix I’ve been using is toggling from iPhone, speaker, (Bluetooth connected device) headset,AirPods, vehicle, ect. Until I hear it reconnect to the Bluetooth device.

I have also been contacted by apple. They installed the software and successfully logged the disconnects between my phone and the car Bluetooth. They said they would forward it on to the engineers and let me know by Monday what next steps need to be to resolve the issue. Let’s hope all of this feedback will result in a fix soon.

I have a 2019 4runner and just got back from Toyota. My iPhone 13 Pro keeps dropping calls after around 3 minutes. Both the head unit and the phone are currently up to date with software. Yet, still drops out the bluetooth. My call stays connected to the caller, but swaps over to the phone and disconnects from the radio. The vehicle is still under warranty so well see if they have a fix...

my iPhone 13 disconnects from the Bluetooth after five to six minutes , it doesn’t cut off completely and let’s me talk on speaker. But not thru the Bluetooth until I restart the car. I just went to the Verizon store and they said it’s a Toyota problem. What do you say ? It’s extreme frustrating not to be able to finish a call.

Same exact issue, iPhone 13 (iOS 15.1.1) connected to a 2017 Toyota 4Runner. Bluetooth drops the call after 3 minutes and I can sometimes continue the phone call on my phone, but the radio unit shows that my call is still connected and there's no way to end the call, even though the call has ended on my phone. I had no issues with my iPhone 7+. Should have just kept it and gotten a new battery installed.

Volvo XC60 late 2009, iOS 14.2 and iPhone 13 Pro Max - issues still exists and my phone disconnects still the same. One or two call are fine, then I lock my phone screen and suddenly the phone and the car stops communicating. iPhone then says disconnected but my car is frozen saying "connected" or "dialing" but nothing is happening on the phone. This starts to feel like hardware issue with the newer iPhone bluetooth chips. Hope we see a recall program soon.

This issue is not happening (and never was) on my work phone - iPhone XS Max on iOS 15.2

I am also having difficulty with Bluetooth with my iPhone 13 mini. I just got this phone upgraded from iPhone 7 and my iPhone 7 never had problems with Bluetooth. This new phone won’t connect to my 2016 Subaru Legacy. It did pair with my Chevy Malibu work car but it disconnects every 5 minutes. Super frustrating. I thought a new phone would work properly.

Several weeks ago I paid $75 to update the software on my 2017 Toyota Tundra....Bluetooth still dropped calls. Saw last night that the IOS 15.2 came out and so I updated that. I didn't have a lot of confidence based on the number of people in these forums saying they still lost calls with IOS 15.2. Well, I made 1 phone call, lasted 14 min and had no issues. I'm not convinced it's fixed, but am cautiously optimistic. I'm also thinking the fix or no fix is dependent on the type of vehicle you have? We'll see, time will tell.
