No audio after tvOS 15.1 update from 15.0

My AppleTV is completely silent after updating to 15.1 :-(

I tried every setting in the audio preferences, no luck ...

... any suggestions?

Same problem here.

I have a setup with an Apple TV HD, a projector without audio and an HDMI audio extractor in between which sends the audio to a PA system.

Since the Apple TV auto upgraded itself to 15.1.1 I have no more audio.

The device is completely useless now as I don't have any other way to get audio in that particular setup.

I've send feedback via https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-tv/ as well.

Chalk up another one without audio. Apple TV 4K 1st gen to a projector via an audio extractor to get optical audio for a sonos playbar. Seemingly simple… Worked for years until it went quiet with 15.1.1. No tv audio menu option or extractor configuration changes it. The setup still works if I drive it all from my Iphone via a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. Can’t wait to see how the car works 🤗

I also lost my audio output from my Apple TV 4K after the automatic update to 15.1.1. I confirmed that I lost sound from another Apple TV that I had that was also updated to 15.1.1. The HDMI goes through an HDMI switch through an audio extractor. From there the sound goes to an Denon AVR-4306 via optical digital audio. The video signal continues onto the Epson 5040UB Projector. Interestingly I still get sound when I plug into another little presentation projector that I have but not when plugged into the Epson. The Xbox and PS3 still work fine with sound run through the same system so the issue is tied to the Apple TV. The projector is fully up-to-date and there is no way to update the Denon receiver. Hopefully Apple comes through and patches the issue that 15.1.1 created on their Apple TV's.

Having something similar, happened the same time as I installed a new TV last week (Sony 95J) with Dolby Vision so I thought it was the TV as everything was fine before that. I found after a while the sound would cut out and it would switch to 1080p. I would have to disconnect hdmi and power and then it works again. I since then changed to HDR 10 vs DV and periodically now only the sound cuts out but it stays on 4K. Connected to my Anthem AVM60.

Thought is was handshake issues so I bought new HDMI cables (Belkin Ultra HiSpeed from the Apple Store) today. When I first connected the sound cut out so I did the unplug power and HDMI and all is working again. Hopefully the sound will stay on now.

i was going nuts until I found this thread, hopefully a firmware update will happen soon.

Sony 950h tv and lost all audio all of a sudden. it seems to have worked for a bit under the new tvOS 15.1.1 but came home tonite and no audio and nothing I do fixes it. even tried another Apple TV and it didn't work with the Sony tv. Works fine with older 1080p Samsung in the bedroom though. this is terrible.

Just bought the Apple TV 4k Gen 2 yesterday to replace a older 1080p Apple TV. Luckily I stumbled on this thread before I installed it, lol…I installed and updated to 15.0, it tried hours later for the 15.1 update but I stopped it before it could do anything.

Everything is hooked to the TV via HDMI, no splitters or anything.

FWIW the TV is a Sony 85J, not using the receiver yet still working on the setup but it’s a old Onkyo SR-705 and SR-636.

One thing I noticed is almost every post involves a splitter, Optical or using a receiver.

Does anyone have the same issue with just the TV with 15.1?

I tried to call Apple about something different but that was a disaster!

Absolute crappest CS in over twenty years! This lady kept stepping on everything I was trying to say, she was basically a broken record in the end.

Apple’s answer is to update to 15.1 and all will be OK. I told her I wasn’t going to update it without a rollback option. Then the line went dead, lmao! WTF!?!

She repeatedly kept saying “The Engineers designed it to fix problems like I was having”. I told her I wasn’t going to deal with a bigger issue by updating, she didn’t like me very much…BTW I called because the remote is acting flaky AH, takes 2-6 inputs to get a response….

Every other time I had to call CS they were great.?.

Not sure what to do…Probably call back on Monday when the “normal” staff is in, lol.
