external webcam stopped working with monterey

So immediately after upgrading I found my external usb-c web cam stopped working.

Huddly IQ app seems to detect the connection of the camera when plugged in, but there is no video stream available to the Huddly IQ management app, or any other apps.

Zoom isn't working for me, nor Google meet, FaceTime etc.

Usually it is plugged into my dell d6000 dock via USB-A to usb-c, but I have tried plugging it directly into my MacBook Pro M1 and restarting, but nothing.

Strangely in most apps I can select and use the sound from the webcam, but there is no video stream available to select.

I also can’t get my cannon T6i to become my external webcam since updating to Monterey. Can anyone help with this?

Yes, I tried removing the permissions, restarting, and then adding them back in but no change.

Exactly the same camera and issue as me.

Really frustrating considering my job depends on me having video calls! I'm unsure if different brands have the same issue or not.

Some of the external devices have their own cable.

I still need to access USB2.0 and USB3.0 ports on my hub.

Huddly responded to say they are aware of an issue, they haven’t been able to replicate it, but they also think it is not specific to them as it is affecting other vendors. They are waiting on a fix from apple.

Ok - so this isn't just an external web cam issue. It appears that certain USB Hubs and cables are no longer working well with Monterey.

My setup used to be USB3.1gen1 cable to Dell 4k Monitor (with built in USB 3.0 Hub) > USB 3.0 cable to Dell D6000 Dock > USB-C (not sure of the spec) cable to the WebCam.

It appears the USB dock on the Dell monitor is no longer running at 5Gbps on Monterey.
But also certain USB-C cables that used to work with the camera (or other devices) plugged in directly to the MacBook now no longer work either. This includes the genuine apple USB-C cables that I had to hand.

I swapped out all the cables with brand new USB-IF certified cables and changed my setup so the dock is now directly plugged into my M1 and the dock connected to the webcam (slightly annoying as now I have to plug in two cables, rather than one) - the camera now connects at 5Gbps and is working.

I have tested other devices too and they had also dropped from USB 3.0 'superspeed' 5Gbps or USB 3.1 (5Gbps or more) down to old school USB speeds of ~480Mbps. The 4k USB-C camera just didn't connect at those speeds.

So about £50 spent on cables and still not back to where I was, but at least it works now.

OS 12.1

Logitech USB webcam

I have a work Intel MBP with OS 12.1 which works fine with the webcam. But not at all with the same OS with my M1 MBP.

Apple, please look at all the people having this same exact issue and fix the drivers, please.

A follow up: Used the cable that was hooked up to the Logitech Brio and the Dell is still not recognized by the MacBook Pro. So the cable is not the problem.
