homepod and siri

All my devices are set to use the female British voice as set up in iPhone settings>Siri. Suddenly, in the last few days when I touch the + or - on the top of the HomePod a male voice says "turning up the volume". First of all, previously Siri would never respond to the touch volume controls. If that has been added in the latest update why a different voice. Any one else having this issue. It's Creepy!!!
