Songs View Jumping to Random Spots After Action

Since the update to Monterey I've been experiencing some weird behavior when adding songs to a playlist (or editing info of a song/album). It seems as soon as Apple Music is done making changes, it just randomly decides to jump to a different spot in my current view.

Example: In the Library - Songs view, I went to an album by the artist "Dave". I selected the 12 songs from the album, two-finger click, Add to Last Playlist, and the Songs view jumps down to Jeezy. Do the same thing for a Turnstile album and it jumps down to Various Artists.

All of my playlists are in the "Songs" view (because the default Playlist view is absolutely worthless), so I cannot say whether this happens in other views.

Another, slightly less annoying bug, is that when using the keyboard to jump to the artist you want (in the example above typing "Dave") the first matching song is highlighted at the bottom of the view, instead of the top as it's been since... forever.

Am I the only experiencing/annoyed by these two bugs?

2 issues will rectify itself if you turn off 'Sync Library' in Music > Preferences > General

  1. No more auto jumping in Songs playlist after any editing action
  2. The Now Playing menu bar will behave as expected; as in it will show the playing time and remaining time & the scrubber will show accordingly where you are in the music track

As soon as you turn it back on, these 2 issues return.

I've been thinking the same for a while. I was always quite proud of how MacOS was so advanced and less buggy than Windows and I always used to say 'it just works.'

Since Monterey I've seen bugs like this (and the similar side scrolling jump in finder) that has been around for so long now unresolved I wonder what on earth is going on...

What are the devs working on? As an IT Service Manager I always used to say your live services are the most important. Without them (or users of them) you'll have nothing to deliver your projects or development work on to...

Come on Apple, we deserve better.

I can't see how the input device could be the issue. I'm using an Apple wireless keyboard (2nd gen version which takes 2 AA batteries and doesn't have a number pad), and a 1st gen Magic Trackpad (or was there a 2nd gen of the 2 AA batteries model?). Often, I'm not touching either device when the song list jumps, but if I am touching either input device at the time, it's always the keyboard.

This is very clearly related to Cloud Music Library Sync. Someone else mentioned and I want to reiterate:

Any change you make to metadata gets sync'd to Cloud Music Library and then appears to bork (technical term) the view in Songs view. ANY change to the view gets you back in business. (change to another view, CMD +L, etc.) This is very time consuming for the user and has gone on long enough. Apple needs to fix this. Period.

In the meantime turn off Cloud Sync and do it manually (File - Library - Update Cloud Library). Ugh.

Earlier in this thread, somebody (probably multiple people) mentioned that the issue is most like caused by iCloud Music Library, and I strongly suspect they're right. I think it's probably iCloud Music Library telling the Music app to jump to the song it thinks you want to see - maybe the previously played or previously edited song? I don't know, but that's my guess for what's causing this.

I recently bought a new Mac. I decided to start from scratch, importing things manually and in most cases starting over rather than using Migration Assistant. I've been using Macs for a long, long time, so it seemed like starting over from scratch would be wise.

Long story short - I'm STILL experiencing this bug. It happens far less often with my new Mac, but it still happens. This makes me suspect it's related to how Apple Music on the Mac interacts with iCloud Music Library.

God, I hope they fixed it with Ventura.
