Since I upgraded to OS Monterey the login screen after I start my laptop shows the purple shades that are literally called "Monterey"
I really don't like the colors! Looking through system preferences I don't see a way to change the image.
Icon yes, but not the screen? Is there something I'm missing? How can I change the image?

The pre-login boot wallpaper now loads from a sealed snapshot. It is not editable.
macOS today operates by separating the system files and the data files into two totally separate volumes. The system files are "sealed". It is, essentially, a read-only volume which Apple distributes. Since the hard disk is encrypted before you login, the computer does not have access to anything other than a little metadata associated with the accounts (username and a small icon and that's about it). Once you enter a password, the data volume can be decrypted. The computer then essentially "merges" the system files and data files together in real time like a zipper through a series of firmlinks.
macOS now boots in a state that is always fresh and identical. Only once you login do all the changes you've made (including wallpaper) become visible to the system.

The single user thing I don't think honestly even works anymore. Fresh install 12.3.1, single/only user, no guest. Still get the ugly pink login screen.
Why is it challenging to change a startup background? Nonsensical.
Guest login isn't on. Why can't I just say 'make my lock screen this image?' So odd; literally the first thing anyone would want to do.

I am a single user with guest turned off and still get the ugly purple Monterey. Ugh
This is all to pathetic for words!! All I want is the old Mac startup; just the Apple logo!! Please guys, give us choice!!

Nothing works on my MBA m2 Monterey 12.5.1 apart from turning filevault off.
I came from a 11'' 2012 MBA, which works fine. This machine does not? what gives?
That folder ceased to exist on my machine recently, so this suggestion stopped working. :-(

So sad that this file is now a "sealed" file, especially since it wasn’t previously. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was less obnoxious.
Good as a workaround in some cases, but not for cases where login security is required.
