Tap-to-click issue on MacOS 12.0.1

So I've been having this very annoying issue in Monterey that happens randomly when I tap to click. Sometimes the occurrence is not registered and the click is 'wasted', like clicking in vain. This is so frustrating and happens so often that I'm really considering going back to BigSur because of it (even though I'm loving Monterey so far, except for this bug). I saw a few people mentioning they're having this issue but not as many people as I thought there would be. I have this happening with my M1 MBA.

Is anybody else experiencing this with their MacBooks or magic trackpads?

I resolved my issue on my M1 MB Air by selecting "Light" in the Trackpad "Point & Click" section.

It was driving me up the wall, I upgraded my work MB Air first, dealt with this issue and then upgraded my home MB Air M1, thinking I'd just deal with it until Apple figured it out.

Turns out it was just the setting in the aforementioned preference.

Sorry, but that link is not the one he posted or was referring to. That link was quoted from my post, and he said that it wasn't the best one.

He was saying that this link: https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/ was not only for beta testers and was for general users. And while it is apparently open to anyone using it, it is clearly intended for beta testers or developers.

Just took delivery of a new M1 Max MBP. I used Migration Assistant and copied over everything from my Big Sur 13" MBP. I do not have the issue, but noticed a couple of strange things.

One, in the settings, tap to click isn't even selected. In Accessibility, trackpad 3 finger dragging is also not selected. Everything works, but it isn't actually selected. I'm afraid to select them in fear that the issue will present itself.

Also, and this may be unrelated, but when using modifier keys with the tap, it takes like 3 taps for it to register. In Safari and in Finder using modifier keys requires extra clicks. In Safari, Command Tapping a link to open in a new tab, it requires 3 taps. It's reliable and always 3. Never seen that behavior and wonder if there is actually some explicit setting causing this. Haven't poked around yet, but will tomorrow.

At any rate, hoping to see 12.1 sooner rather than later.

I'm not on 12.1, sorry. As I state above, I can deal with three taps to do whatever when I use modifier keys. It is consistent and reliable and not a huge deal, now anyway. It needs to be fixed for sure, but since it is consistent and reliable (well, actually, not totally reliable because occasionally, in some apps, it works with one click as it should), it is not a stress inducer for me.

Having the same issue on an M1 MBP from 2020. Been noticing slightly flakey behaviour with both single tap and pinch to zoom for a few weeks, but we use a lot of browser-based stuff at work and I thought maybe it was just something about how those apps were implemented. But as of today, I can no longer double-tap-and-drag AT ALL.

I really don't want to have to hard-click this stuff from now on! (I hate it and the muscle-memory will take a long time to overwrite.) I've updated to MAC OS 12.1 after reading this and other threads, but no dice :(

As for the drag+drop issue, for example when moving files in the finder, I contacted the Apple support. The guy was literally laughing at me and said he experienced the same many times . He said this a new function and I need to press and hold CMD while moving files around with the mouse pointer (using the Trackpad). Actually it works but he didn't seem to be very convincing to me. Why should it be a new function? I want to have it like before. The issues persists with 12.1.
