Apple Music Lossless Airplay quality?

iPhone is now able to play Lossless Apple Music. It can then send that Music via Airplay to Apple TV for example. What is the tech specs of the quality of that song when it comes in to the Apple TV 4K (1st gen)

Contacted Apple about this, and they DID NOT confirm that the quality is Lossless even though Airplay is able to send Lossless.

What I'm saying is that Airplay has always been lossless (from your device to the airplay receiver). So, it's not only possible – it's how it is. :)

Before Apple Music also began delivering music in a lossless format, that didn't mean a whole lot for most people, as the lossless signal was converted from a lossy source. But it also means that now when you get a lossless file from Apple Music to your device, it is not degraded when sent to the reciever.

Airplay has always been lossless – ever since it's first implementation. At 16 bit/44.1 kHz, it transfers the predictable 150 kb/s. While I cannot say that I know for a fact that this also apply when sending to an Apple TV, my guess would be that it works the same. (I'm also not sure if the Apple TV 4K can handle hires audio (at 24 bit/192 kHz) so milage may vary.)

Best,

J.
