Mojave Apple Mail won't access AT&T Mail

I recently obtained a refurbished Mac Min (mid 2018). I am unable to add my att.net mail account. The passwords us accepted when I log in from the Web site or pm iPhone of mu Ipad but I can longer get apple mail to work with Att.net. Seems to me like too much effort on fluff by apple and and not enough on core functions. I have also tried theri OAauthand secure password system. The ultimate in security ...no access

Well, the symptoms you have are exactly the sane as when a special APP PW is needed, no idea why that doesn't work for you!?

I gave up on Safari ages ago, unbelievably it had the most trouble with Apple's own sites!

In Safari>Prefs>Passwords, try remove the webmail entry there.

Might try this, it's Chrome Browser without google & without Ads...

Hello, I'm sure it needs an App PW...

Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

I am old .. past the getting there stage. With Chrome I can log in no problem. With the POS the call Safari I get sent to a password reset loop I reset password like it wants and it loops again. I don't lose sleep with the non use of Safari as I always though it to be ok when compared to IE. The issue I have appears to be all cause by Apple. Maybe I hauled switch to GMAIL... I distrust their stiff but it does work

Thanks for the tip on the browser.. Currently I can not access the part of att's site dealing witg applications pass word. I was able to this morning but now getting a "sorry something wrong with the page". In some ways At&T/Yahoo and Apple seem to be following the same mutual hate path that Apple and Adobe did. Like I said these credentials work on my iOS 15 device. with AT&T. Trying to find a copy of High Sierra...
