I removed it by just switching off iCloud backup, coming out of the screen and then going back in and switching it back on again. And hey presto the message was gone. No idea why it works but it did for me

If you want to cancel all information from that device and restart from scratch:--> What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you want to set it up for your daughter, use a different Apple ID & password for her.
If you want to control that iPhone from your iPhone, use family sharing, as per these instructions:--> Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support.
If you mean something different, please better specify your needs.

I’m in the same boat. Bought new phones for family and this “get ready for your new iPhone” message now persists in the settings app on my iPhone. Even after those family members set up and activated their devices and linked them to their own Apple accounts. There seems to be no way to get rid of this annoyance.
I'd beg to differ - the problem isn't solved if it relies on Apple getting bored and going away. Like you, I've had this notification on my iPhone for about three weeks now. I've just updated to IOS 15.2 and it's still there. The person for whom I bought the iPhone has been using it for all of those three weeks. It is never going to get set up by me! Very irritating, and I have no doubt that Apple couldn't care less.
Doing this, in exactly the way you described (turn off iCloud, go out of settings & close that, go back in & turn back on iCloud Backup) did the trick for me. Thank YOU! Finally I can stop panicking about it maybe erasing all my data now lol 😂
Hi, thanks for the reply. All I want to do is remove the notification from my iPhone and let my daughter set up the new phone when she receives it on Christmas Day!
I have the same issue, and I even had to return the new phone :)
Having bought the iPhone 13 in mid-October as a Christmas gift this message stayed on my iPhone until recently when I noticed it has disappeared! Problem solved!
They could really place a “remove messages” button or a smaller notification
Just click on “get started” as if you were completing the process, do not select any additional apps and that’s it. It’ll go away after two clicks.
@cavargast, I tried that but didn't go away. Finally went away after a month of the initial day of showing up.
At last!!!!! A solution that actually worked! Thank-you!!!
(And “Yes”, that message was still there before I tried this!!)
I no longer have the phone as it was a Christmas gift for my daughter and she has now set it up so I'm not getting any messages!
Thi is the correct answer, thank you
