Facebook freezes on iPad when I click comments

Every time I try to open comments on Facebook App, the App “freezes”/crashes & will not open comments. I have removed app & reinstalled with no luck. I have powered off iPad & no luck. Any other suggestions?

Definitely not right after ios 15.1 - I started experiencing it right before I downloaded that update. It started (for me) right after Facebook app 341.0 was installed. Installing ios 15.1 was part of my troubleshooting, the day the issue started. Subsequent FB updates up to 343.1 (today 11-6) have still not resolved the issue. :/.

Troubleshooting has involved rebooting; warm updates on each FB version, followed by testing, followed by rebooting, testing again, then uninstalling the app completely, rebooting, and reinstalling and rebooting - and the problem has remained, and even expanded.

341.0 - the problem was ONLY in comments on posts within GROUPS. Expanding comments for anything in the newsfeed worked

342.0 - the problem expanded to comments in the newsfeed, as well as groups

343.0 - no change in behavior

343.1 - no change in behavior

I have reported the issue to FB via their instructions for reporting issues, but did not feel confident that it was the right channel. :/

As others have said—disconnecting the keyboard miraculously solved the problem—which may be why the phone version of the app doesn’t have the issue. (I plan on testing this out with another keyboard, later today.)

For now—I’m getting by by keeping my iPad keyboard attached; when I need to view comments, I lift the iPad off the keyboard (case + keyboard combo), and touch “comments”—and when comments pop up, I set the iPad back down on the keyboard and start typing. Scrolling once you’re IN the comments doesn’t seem to be an issue…only getting into the comments.

(Not putting this out here to argue with you or anyone else—just to help others, like myself, who are trying to work through the problem, who might stumble across this issue! :))

Disconnecting the keyboard stops Facebook from freezing, but doesn't stop the problem of the FB app freezing in the first place when using FB with a keyboard. (I'm using the Apple Magic Keyboard with my iPad Pro 11'). Note: When FB freezes, none of the other apps freeze, so it's only FB that needs to be unfrozen.

One thing that does seem to work is going to Settings then going to Accessibility and setting Full Keyboard Access. (Sometimes this setting gets turned off after an iOS upgrade, so you have to go back and set it back manually.)

Another issue just made an appearance. An icon for the IPad keyboard keeps appearing on my screen when I’m using my Bluetooth keyboard. I’m attaching a screenshot for clarity. Anyone had any idea on how to get rid of it? As you can see, it blocks the “send” button that’s needed since the enter key doesn’t work with IOS15 & IOS15.1 update. Wish we were able to undo this update!

i put “Space” back in, just to test to see if that issue still existed. Now I’m finding my Bluetooth keyboard space bar is responding to space in facebook. I can’t duplicate the spacing issue now. Then I tested the “Tab” key in my Yahoo email composition to see if it would jump to the next field. That wasn’t working at all when keying in a text box in any app. It toggled between the “To” field and the “Subject” field. It wouldn’t jump to the body to allow me to key in text without physically touching the screen. So, I edited my summary, and I’m down to 3 of the most complaints. I will edit it and update as needed. I’m attaching it here. If you think of anything else I may be missing, let me know. Only other item that I’m not quite sure of, I’m finding instead of the “blue box,” I’m sporadically seeing a gray box now.

You’re welcome. The blue boxes MAY return. I found that turning the access to ON when I use facebook, and OFF when I use all my other apps. Once you clear the space in the commands, all you have to do is flip it to off to use other apps. I’ve even set the accessibility button in my control center. Makes it much easier than having to do through all the settings steps every time I want to change it.

IPad Pro with the keyboard here. Wobble1306 hit the nail on the head - it IS a keyboard issue. The issue actually started with IOS 15, NOT 15.1. It is not a Facebook issue. Deleting and reinstalling the app and/or powering the iPad off will serve no purpose…nor will closing and reopening the app other than to let you start over. Let’s get this resolved Apple.

Thanks! :). I found another thread online this morning (11/7) that said the bug affects other Bluetooth connected devices as well --headset, pencil--and it can also on the iPhone. Haven't bothered doing any additional testing to confirm that, but I've no reason to believe folks are making it up! 😁

Presumably Apple and FB will sort it out eventually!

In the mean time...did you see the better workaround for at least the keyboard issue, further down in the thread? Works like a charm! :)

Go to Setting | Accessibility| Keyboards | Full Keyboard Access - and turn it to ON. :)

Solved Facebook comment problem on both machines. Thank you.

But when typing this reply on Magic Keyboard (Chrome browser) that setting prevents using space bar (hitting it takes the typing off the text window = no spaces in the text possible.

Turning off full access rectifies the space bar problem.

So there seems to be still something not right in the iOS 15.x and keyboard management …
