Facebook freezes on iPad when I click comments

Every time I try to open comments on Facebook App, the App “freezes”/crashes & will not open comments. I have removed app & reinstalled with no luck. I have powered off iPad & no luck. Any other suggestions?

Definitely not right after ios 15.1 - I started experiencing it right before I downloaded that update. It started (for me) right after Facebook app 341.0 was installed. Installing ios 15.1 was part of my troubleshooting, the day the issue started. Subsequent FB updates up to 343.1 (today 11-6) have still not resolved the issue. :/.

Troubleshooting has involved rebooting; warm updates on each FB version, followed by testing, followed by rebooting, testing again, then uninstalling the app completely, rebooting, and reinstalling and rebooting - and the problem has remained, and even expanded.

341.0 - the problem was ONLY in comments on posts within GROUPS. Expanding comments for anything in the newsfeed worked

342.0 - the problem expanded to comments in the newsfeed, as well as groups

343.0 - no change in behavior

343.1 - no change in behavior

I have reported the issue to FB via their instructions for reporting issues, but did not feel confident that it was the right channel. :/

As others have said—disconnecting the keyboard miraculously solved the problem—which may be why the phone version of the app doesn’t have the issue. (I plan on testing this out with another keyboard, later today.)

For now—I’m getting by by keeping my iPad keyboard attached; when I need to view comments, I lift the iPad off the keyboard (case + keyboard combo), and touch “comments”—and when comments pop up, I set the iPad back down on the keyboard and start typing. Scrolling once you’re IN the comments doesn’t seem to be an issue…only getting into the comments.

(Not putting this out here to argue with you or anyone else—just to help others, like myself, who are trying to work through the problem, who might stumble across this issue! :))

Note further however I was sharing on same thread on MacRumors this fix and I could not comment and post in my reply when this was turned on so it effects more than chrome use. so a temporary fix for facebook but not when it causes other problems posting elsewhere.

Solved Facebook comment problem on both machines. Thank you.
But when typing this reply on Magic Keyboard (Chrome browser) that setting prevents using space bar (hitting it takes the typing off the text window = no spaces in the text possible.
Turning off full access rectifies the space bar problem.
So there seems to be still something not right in the iOS 15.x and keyboard management …

More than chrome I was sharing this fix on MacRumors for thread there on same issues. I cannot put text in my post there when this is on. So it effects other postings and seems thus to only be a fix for facebook. Not acceptable apple needs to fix and or deal with whatever facebook did in updates that hit 15.x like this

In the meantime I read more about full keyboard access -> feature allowing to access functionality of touch screen from HW keyboard. In this “mode”, hitting the space bar has function of invoking special functions via shortcuts.

So while it resolves “crash” in Facebook, the keyboard does not function in “standard typewriter way”, and more problems emerge in other apps.

One can also (unknowingly) invoke some unwanted consequences by hitting spacebar-character sequence in first attempt to type something (shadow empty widows on the screen, highlighting icons on …. ). Restart needed.

Further problems as I go on. I am on facebook and typing a reply when I try to hit space bar it puts me at front of my comment so I cannot even use space bar when in facebook on my iPad Pro and the magic keyboard so the solution is only good for hittin comments I have to then go and turn off to type a reply with spaces using space bar. This is not even a kludge it is worse there is a problem and facebook and apple need to fix or it makes using facebook (a question for me if it is even worth it any longer) a real pain on my ipad with keyboard

Go back to Full Keyboard Access, then go to the commands, and change "Activate" from the spacebar to a weird combination of characters. Right now, when you hit Space, you're activating controlling your device from an external keyboard.

It's obviously a kludge--and you might find other commands you need to modify--but until they fix the issue, that would, hopefully, keep you going. 🙂

Well, that DID do the trick for Facebook app comments. However, it totally screwed up my keyboard when trying to search in the top of page search bar with Google. I returned my accessibility settings as before and now read Facebook only through the website or on my phone or MacBook.

I don't know who to blame, Apple for the iOS 15 update or Facebook. Either way, it's amateur hour and these folks need to push out a fix.

If you go further into your Accessibility settings, you will find a place where you can deactivate that special function for Space. That way you can have keyboard access ON and still use Space as normal. Does that help?

Ok tried that seems to work hopefully this does not mess something else up but for now i can use facebook fully as well as other web sites like this with no problems.
