Sticky liquid spilled inside charger port iPhone 12 Pro Max w/Apple Care +

Hi everyone,

While I was carrying a very large container of pre-made cocktails, some of the liquid sloshed over the top of the dispenser, down my pants 😑 and into my phone pocket. Unfortunately, my charger port was facing upwards when this happened.

Seven hours later, I plugged my lightning charger into my phone before bed. Upon awakening, I saw that my phone hadn’t charged because liquid was detected in the lightning charger.

Since the liquid wasn’t water, rather it was a sticky mixed drink, is there any safe way to clean my phone and also to be sure it hasn’t been damaged? From here forward, I’m going to put my phone in my pocket with the charger port facing downwards.
