i now receive the referenced error when trying to drag and drop files
What do I do to resolve

I use a Mac, so this is mostly a Mac fix. Maybe it will work with Windows.
First I have to be sure I’m connected to my cloud account. Then all I do is double click any folder on my desktop. Then a column of small icons appears in a new window (see picture below). Then you just click on the iCloud icon and a list of all your iCloud folders appears. Then you simply drag the documents from your desktop into the desired cloud folders l.
I hope this works for you, even though you’re using windows.

Hope this gets fixed. I'm getting real tired of emailing files to my iPhone to "save to files."

Worked for me too! Thanks Tryg100 Still can't do a "drag and drop" from PC folder directly to iCloud in Chrome but your technique works so that's great.
seriously, why am i paying for more space if i can't even upload files to the drive.

iCloud for Windows has an upload icon now. You have to use it instead of the old drag-and-drop. I am using Chrome and W10, just for reference.
So… this is about a week after the last reply. I’ve been having this issue for a few months. Still no fix beyond not using browsers for uploads?

And yea, this problem has been happening since Fall 2021 with no fix in sight.
Did anyone really ever get a SOLUTION, I use a Mac, have always ben able to upload files now I cant. Is it the new icloud plus? Can you disable that version?
The connection to my phone helped for sure, but I will try the other suggestion too.
I have a Windows 11 PC and I was able to resolve this issue by downloading the iCloud for Windows app. Once the app was installed, I was able to drag and drop files using 'File Explorer.'
