How do I prevent Apple Carplay from auto suggesting a route?

Nearly every time I plug my phone in in the car, the map comes up with an auto-suggested route that I have to manually clear. It doesn't actually start navigating, I have to manually start the navigation or manually clear the navigation. I don't actually want to do either. The destination is almost never correct, but even if it were, I don't need Apple's help getting home. I just want the map, I don't want to manual except or reject an auto-suggestion.

I had this problem before and someone suggested that I clear all the locations in the maps app. I did that and it worked ... for a while. Now it's doing it again and there are no locations in my maps app left to clear.

Can someone please tell me how to disable this feature?
