Restore factory settings

I forgot my password and followed the steps to restore as I don't need the data on it. But when i get to the point of pressing the restore button it comes up saying i have to update the latest itunes in order to proceed. But which I can't do as the ipad is locked. What do i do?

The latest version of iTunes needs to be installed on your computer and not on your iPad.
