Can i extend from my iMac to an external monitor using a wireless hdmi extender?

I have an iMac that works fine when I connect and external monitor via hdmi (I am using an adaptor.

Is there any reason when a wireless hdmi 4k @30 shouldn't work to extend my desktop? ( want to the monitor to be in a different location that is within the allowed amount)

No, you need a wired connection unless you are referring to Airplay where you want to use your TV as an external display. In that case you would need a TV with either Airplay 2 or an Apple TV to use Airplay.
