Mac Pro (Late 2013) Randomly Restarting
My computer restarts randomly, rarely mid working but majority of time when it’s in sleep.
I tried resetting SMC and it has not helped. I get the following error report log.

MCA Errors are usually hardware issues with the CPU/Logic Board or some component tied directly to the CPU such as a connected Thunderbolt device. Make sure to disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.
Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.
Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the Mac to provide you with a repair estimate.

Hey amin0o ,
Thanks for the info!
If the issue doesn't continue while in safe mode, leave safe mode by restarting your Mac normally. Then test for the issue again. The issue might be resolved.
If the issue returns after leaving safe mode, startup items are probably at fault. Apps can install such items in numerous places, and they aren't always easy to find or recognize. For that reason, you should first make sure that you've installed any available updates for your Apple software and third-party apps.
If updating your software doesn't help, try any of these solutions:
If you still need help, please contact Apple Support.
Cheers!
I have the same issues with 2 units. As others suggested, i disabled everything in energy saver included power nap and the problem was resolved for one week. Yesterday i had a restart again but i had noticed that even if you disable everything, Mac OSX schedules wake ups from sleep every week or so. The next scheduled event for my mac pro is at the 10 of the month ( you can see them in about this mac - system report - power settings), so if the problem occurs again at this day i will know what is happening.
If you disable everything in energy saver i think you will be almost ok
Hope this helps
So, I am downloading 12.2.1 right now. I turned off "power nap" and it hasn't had the problem since. It has only been a few days, but I check on it frequently and it hasn't done it since turning that off. That is the only thing I changed, FWIW. Fingers crossed.
Same hieroglyphic log and random crashes while leaving it unattended. Disabled all energy settings, installed fresh Monterey 3 or 4 times - do not even count anymore. Big Sur is running fine for weeeeeeeeks without crashes. APPLE??????
Hey amin0o,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
We see from your post that you're having trouble with your Mac Pro restarting. We'd like to help out.
You've done great steps so far with resetting the SMC.
Try starting in safe mode to test:

Hi all, result for previous post, pretty convinced it was the converter, it was third party, MCA error has not resurfaced since removing it, Did not realise thunderbolt plug ins could produce an MCA type error like this. Did not see errors like this on the iMacs i have had in the past. Though this did not happen from sleep, and only from original start, it also did not error straight away when I installed the converter, only after a few starts, or at least I noticed it then. (It did correct itself after second start, then showed error message dialogue) So there is a possibility a connected device or software extension may not respond well to the system update, OS 12 very new, the safe start and dumby account login with no plug ins should point this out. Thanks to HWTech for the thunderbolt hint, it was handy.
If rebooting while asleep, and power nap is checked, there could be a hint there, what does it wake on power nap for.
this stuff can be tuff to trace, perhaps check start up drive formating, OS 11 and 12 do, I believe have altered formatting to some small extent. (When I first received my trash can it had been changed back from BS, but not correctly showing a additional phantom partition, once correctly erased and HS reinstalled this issue was fixed), If not right could impact on wake up, not sure about if it would generate an MCA type error however. The fact that bootcamp works, does this have different format for the partition ie ntfs, if so perhaps this also points to format/OS issue, hope this helps. Pity someone does not write a decoder for those somewhat cryptic error messages, you cant even google these to any extent, you could paste it in and it tells you whats wrong, da da. Like the numerical error codes one.
Yes, chrome.
Normally only 1-2 tabs (I use it for a security camera so I can see who;'s at the front door from my office)
Yes it runs all the time, including in sleep.
My restarts are less frequent now... But still seem to be associated with either going to sleep or waking... I have had occasions (Last Saturday) when it had restarted overnight and then again a couple of hours later.. But since disabling all the wake-ups it's been 1-2 times a week apart from Saturdays little tantrum..
I did a completely clean install of Big Sur on a brand new drive (needed to upgrade anyway). Nothing but system. During sleep it crashes and the beeping begins again.
I've resolved the issue for the time being by simply not letting the machine sleep. It's been running a week and a half now. No issues.
It has to be an issue with software or firmware related to sleep.
Firmware maybe...
My previous firmware was very old... But stable as a rock (Apart from an issue when booting an old OS from an external USB that would pause for 60 seconds before starting to load).
However Monterey had to use updated firmware... I've been blaming Monterey. But if yours is crashing on Big Sur... Maybe it's the new firmware. What version of firmware do you have? Mine is now 429.60.3.0.0
Here's my system overview:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro6,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
Processor Speed: 3.7 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 10 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Memory: 32 GB
System Firmware Version: 429.60.3.0.0
SMC Version (system): 2.20f18
Panel Illumination Version: 1.4a6
Serial Number (system): F6CQ8015FY40
Hardware UUID: 4EBAD80F-F666-5921-AA20-7C40DD4ECDD7
Provisioning UDID: 4EBAD80F-F666-5921-AA20-7C40DD4ECDD7
Looks like Big Sur is running on the same as Monterey.
I would ask anyone reading this to try turning of sleep, power nap etc and tell me the response you get. My machine is stable with these settings.
I did this and there have been no kernel panics or unsolicited restarts, but if I must keep the machine on 24/7 I might as well start becoming a web host or something with all of that up time. lol
It would just be great if Apple addressed the issue despite MacPro Late 2013 being out of Applecare for most of the population.
This thread is huge. If there is anyone with this model, has this issue, and still has Applecare, I urge you to ask Apple for a solution.
Further to your issue at some point have you installed new systems on old? How many generations back? ie did your machine come with 10.9 on it originally? which is the last 100% stable system running on your machine? are you still running legacy software/hardware from the original or last stable system? From 10.14 there is negligible support for 32bit, after that it is supported less and less, though unsure exactly, OS 11 and 12 may have abandoned it all together! as they are no longer 10.??. Even a errant screensaver that is unsupported could cause this (anything which installs at the base level really, ie the library file on the hard drive, not the one in you user). Base level is also where the kexts live. Newer software is unlikely to be culprit as it is sandboxed, at least supposed to be. The old stuff not so much. Glad to hear your machine is improving, but for me even a little bit buggered is buggered, working is working, I get it.
