Mac Pro (Late 2013) Randomly Restarting
My computer restarts randomly, rarely mid working but majority of time when it’s in sleep.
I tried resetting SMC and it has not helped. I get the following error report log.

MCA Errors are usually hardware issues with the CPU/Logic Board or some component tied directly to the CPU such as a connected Thunderbolt device. Make sure to disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.
Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.
Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the Mac to provide you with a repair estimate.
I have the same issue: AFTER UPDATE TO MONTERREY (now V.12.2.) I started getting the deadly message "Your computer was restarted due to a problem".
This continues to happen - I send the reports every time.
INFO: The Mac screensaver is set to 20 mins. and kicks in as expected. The Mac is set to sleep at 03:00 every morning. The deadly message is there for me when I get going at around 10:00. No peripherals employed. Login Items in Preferences set to Parallels Toolbox - nothing else. Hardware check always reports "no problems found". The PRAM has been reset multiple times.
NO PROBLEMS OF ANY SORT BEFORE THE MONTERREY UPGRADE.

12.2.1 has just become available. Let's see if something has changed...
Same.
Mac Pro 2013. It started immediately after installing Monterey (Early December '21) so I'm ruling out HW issues. It's also either at sleep or wakeup (i.e. It did it this morning about 5 minutes after I put it to sleep, but I hadn't woken it up... Maybe something else did).
I only have 1 startup item (Jabra Pro plugin for my headset). That was wanting an update (Includes stability fixes according to the release notes - such as they are). So we'll see how that goes...
Not intended as a fix, but how many of you guys are running chrome? Do you leave it running during sleep? Do you have many open Tabs? Have seen a number of reports on facebook forum devoted to trash cans reporting issues related but not exactly the same as this, tracing back to chrome or specific uses of it, just a thought.
I have Mac Pro (Late 2013) with the same behaviour.
• I have tinkered with Power-savings and disabled PowerNap and scheduling etc.
• Reset PRAM
• Boot in Safe-mode
• Latest Monterey as per today (late jan 2022)
...but no luck. It still randomly reboots.
It just restarts, and boot to the login-screen. And when I log in my user (admin) I don't get a crash-report-dialog. It looks like the machine don't know that it crashed. It's like I ordered the reboot.
I don't see anything strange in the logs, but I guess I don't know what I should look for either.
Can this be a PSU about to give up or is it a software bug?
I have FW-version 429.60.3.0.0 and SMC 2.20f18. And latest Monterey.
In my family we have more or less 5 identical trashcans. Most with 1TB OWC-SSD och also upgraded 12-core CPUs and 64GB RAM.
It's only one of my machines that have the random reboot problem. In this thread I'm not sure that we all have the same issue. My machine don't crash-report after start. Also don't seem to have anything with sleep-power-managment to do.
I'm still not sure if some of our problem is due to the fact that our PSUs is about to die. It would be much nicer if it was some kind of bug in Apples firmware and they could issue a software fix for it, but this might just be wishful thinking...
I think if it was the PSU the system would crash randomly while in use (which it never has while on macOS 12, at least for me). It always reboots at some point after it goes to sleep, which would indicate some sort of software bug. It could still be hardware related, but PSU seems unlikely if that's the case.
I did have random and consistent reboot issues on previous macOS versions (Big Sur, Catalina) while the system was in use and running. Those random restarts have seemingly gone away in macOS Monterey and I'm now stuck with the sleep-reboot issue, what a weird situation...
I have a new feature now too as of 12.2 (FWIW disabling sleep helped a bit but still it crashes at times when asleep)
My trashcan will now shutdown without warning in the middle of working. It doesn't appear to be crashing. Everything pauses, mouse no longer moves, then about 30 seconds later power goes off.
The power button then needs to be pressed at which point it boots (Relatively slowly, it looks like updates are being installed, but who can tell with the default tell you nothing boot screen). There's no report generated so it doesn't look like a crash... But I haven't yet found what told it to shutdown either
I'm having the exact same issue with my Mac Pro 2013/6.1 after upgrading from Big Sur to Monterey 12.2.
Already completely reinstalled the Mac, nothing helped either.
Installed a new hard drive, didn't help either.
I've already swapped out the entire RAM, didn't help either.
I also unplugged everything except for a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I even ended up replacing the monitor. Nothing helped.
When I read all the user reports here, it is clear to me that it cannot be due to a hardware problem but to a software problem. For most, the error occurs after installing Monterey.
When will Apple finally get active? Support leaves more and more to be desired from Apple. You can't compare the support like it was 20 years ago!
I have the same problem (Mac Pro Late 2013). It first occurred after a clean install of Monterey when the computer woke up from sleep.
Any chance you have an Apple Watch nearby when the restarts happen?
(There is also the option of starting it when you need, and shutting it down when you don't : )
Rebooted the thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253661141 (or search for unicorn)
Hi Danielle,
I tried per your suggestion and while in safe mode the issue is resolved but when I boot normally, it happens again.
That said a few items I failed to mention about my rebooting problem:
* Started happening right after the most recent update for Big Sur - I have now successfully upgraded to Monterey
* The Issue seems to be when the computer is trying to wake from sleep
Adding to this. I have been seeing more issues lately on my Mac Pro Late 2013 when trying to wake from sleep. This has been happening only recently since the 11.6.1 update. I put to sleep every night. Sometimes, it wakes, other times is does not and I must cycle power. So far, I have not have had a crash while using or when idle. Only during wake from sleep (or overnight). The Problem Report appears with garbled characters in the same way this MCA report shows above. I have never really seen corruption on this report, and I had my share of issues before until my machine was replaced under Applecare (sadly, just a little longer than my Applecare coverage expired on the replacement). I reset the PRAM but did not reset the SMC, so I guess I will try that. Sounds as if that will be fruitless.
