Any key turns on computer

I have a new MacBook Pro running Big Sur 11.6.1 I turned it off.. I always 'shut down' after I use it. I came back after a weekend away and the battery is dead. I find that just glacing over any key, literally any key turns the computer on..well boots it.. then, eventually puts it too sleep. I wish to shut this feature off.. so that it takes a purposeful hit to the power key to start it up.

I cannot close the lid, as has been suggested, because I have a port expander plugged into the two ports. The port expander slightly overlays the computer deck making lid closing a problem. Is there any way to shut this annoying feature off

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

That is normal for the newer MacBooks. You cannot totally disable this feature, at least not on the new Apple M1 MacBooks.

Even if the MacBook is powered off via the power key/button, it will instantly wake when a key is pressed, the trackpad is clicked or if the MacBook's lid is opened (from being closed).

Let Apple know how you feel about this "feature" (I don't like it either...when I turn something off, I expect it to STAY off).
