On every boot up, Calendar would like to use your current location.

Since upgrading to MacOS Monterey, every time I boot up, I get pop up, "Calendar would like to use your current location.." I've gone to Privacy settings/Location Services and checked "Calendar" but doesn't fix it permanently. Anybody else?

Try a SafeBoot to clear system caches, reboot as normal to test.

SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

caches get rebuilt automatically.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Unchecking Calendar on ICloud does stop the notification requesting to use your location on startup for me, however, signing out of Apple/ICloud does not and the notification, plus failure to save enable Calendar in location settings, persists (ie while signed out of ICloud). I have yet to update the OS to 12.1, but from reading elsewhere this does not fix the issue.

Is Calendar enable in Internet Accounts >> iCloud ??

In Calendar >> Preferences >> General and enabled Show Holidays Calendar. Then in Alerts >> Time to Leave. Any of these options may required Location Services enable for Calendar

If remember correctly - one of the first thing Calendar asked when opening in upgrade to Monterey was Do you what to use Locations and required a User interaction to OK or Deny

@Old Toad, I have already booted in Safe Mode several times: it made no difference. Running Disk Utility made no difference either. Other threads report this issue too, and some people report they have reinstalled Monterey, to no effect. The issue for me is wider than the Calendar popup requesting to use your current location. On every startup location preferences resets and anything I have selected, or deselected, in a session is disregarded. Say I grant Calendar and find my mac permission to access my location, these settings are deselected on startup. Conversely, if I disable all location services, location services are enabled on the next startup, but not for find my mac or calendar, hence the pop on each startup. I don't know whether the wider issue affects others.

I too experience this issue (also Mac Pro) and have tried safe mode to clear cache, Disk Utility neither of which worked. Apple Support advised me to reinstall Monterey, which I haven't, but others are also experiencing this issue including someone who reinstalled Monterey and found it made no difference. There are several threads on this issue. See for example https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253315684?answerId=256278764022&page=1

Let's hope someone (Apple?) offers a solution soon.

The issue seems to be ICloud related. Deselecting Calendar from ICloud stops the notification requesting access to your location completely, however, I do need the Calendar to sync to ICloud, so not a practical option.

Bizarrely, deselecting Calendar from ICloud also means that when I select Find my Mac in location services, this option remains selected at the next startup. However, deselecting Calendar from ICloud makes no difference to the reset on startup which means Location Services is enabled, regardless of whether I had disabled (unchecked the box to enable) location services or not.

As a last resort - restart in Recovery Mode and choose the Reinstall macOS.

This will pull the full installer and commence the reinstallation. It, in theory will replace any corrupted or missing elements of the OS without touching the installed Application, setting and personal Data.

Do perform a Time Machine Backup Before attempting the above.

I have 12.1, which was available at the time I installed Monterey which was when the problem regarding location preferences which no longer save, some on, some not, but despite giving Calendar permission to use my current location it never saves, began. From reading the various posts on this site and elsewhere there appears to be no solution. Disappointing that Apple has provided no fix for this. 12.1 has been out a while now, I wonder when the next update is due?

Thanks. I previously contacted Apple Support and spent a fair amount of time speaking to an advisor, going through various steps, opening in safe mode, running disk utility and so forth, none of which made any difference. The advisor gave me a support case number in case I wanted to contact them again about the issue, and I assume this is the same as 'my support' which you are advising to sign up to. The last piece of advice I was given was to reinstall Monterey, which I've not done having read the posts of others who share the same issue who have done this and found it made no difference.
