cellular data network unavailable after resetting cellular statistics

I'm using an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.1, and after resetting my cellular data statistics this morning, which I do once a month to keep track of usage, my AT&T iPhone will no longer connect to the 5G network. It only says 4G or sometimes LTE. But what's even worse is that nothing will load or work unless I'm on Wi-Fi. This is beyond frustrating. My son's 13 Pro is doing the exact same thing after he reset his cellular statistics, too. My wife never reset hers, and her 13 Pro is acting completely normal. Anybody else encountering this?

The saga continues: After replacing the SIM card, mine and my son’s phones were back to normal…or so we thought. We then figured out that we were no longer able to send or receive any green-bubble text messages since resetting our cellular stats. The blue iMessages have been working fine, but not the green ones. I took my phone back to AT&T once again, and they were able to fix it thru a call to the carrier’s support line. They confirmed that resetting our stats was indeed the source of the issue and we shouldn’t do that anymore. I agree that it shouldn’t have created a problem, as I have been resetting those stats once a month for years under Verizon, but per AT&T’s instruction, I will no longer be doing that. They fixed our son’s phone too, in the same way for the same problem. And again, my wife, who also has a 13 Pro, never did reset her stats and never experienced any of the same problems as my son and I. I wonder who else has experienced this issue, on which carriers, and for which models of iPhone. As it is a very odd “bug” which should’ve never occurred in the first place. I’m still unsure if it is strictly a carrier issue, or if Apple is partly to blame

Hi astronoman2000,

It sounds like you aren't able to access 5G after resetting your cellular statistics and can only use Wi-Fi. Let's see if this helps.

Have you had a chance to restart your iPhone? Restarts resolve issues both big and small. Here's how to Restart your iPhone.

Let's double-check that 5G is enabled by using the steps in the section "If you don't see 5G in the status bar" in Use 5G with your iPhone

Additionally, have you had a chance to update your carrier settings? You can update those by using, Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad. A carrier settings update is a great step to take when you're having issues with your network.

If the issue continues after those steps, let us know if you see the option for 5G in Settings as shown in the first link above. Also, we'd like to know if this happens in other locations within your cellular coverage area.

As a quick heads up, you may ultimately need to contact your carrier, but will do all that we can to help you.

We hope this helps and take care!

I took my phone to AT&T last night. They swapped out the SIM card for a new one and then my phone worked just fine. We did the same thing on our son’s phone and then his worked fine too. Somehow, resetting our cellular data statistics made our old SIM cards non-functional. This should never have happened. Now I’m scared to ever reset my stats again, unless Apple releases a fix for this problem. I’m guessing it’s a bug in the operating system. How can I report this bug to Apple, so they can look into it?

It’s coincidence that it happened after resetting statistics. It might have something to do with the start of a new billing period, which presumably happened around the time you reset statistics. But the next step should be to contact AT&T and ask about any local outages or account issues. And check https://downdetector.com, which shows a few localized problem areas for AT&T currently.
