Can't sync, apply or revert in Music

Hi everyone. I normally use spotify for my music listening, but theres a lot of music thats not on Spotify, that I still want to listen to. I used to use itunes to listen to this music on my PC, but recently my PC has stopped working so I want to use my laptop to add music to my iphone. Whenever I plug my iphone into my laptop it just tells me I can "sync settings", which opens a Finder page. From here I basically can't do anything, clicking sync doesn't seem to do anything, and when I try to add music the "revert" and "apply" buttons are greyed out. Does anyone know how a fix or alternative? I just want to listen to MP3 files on my phone.

I don't believe that the "syncing" of music - at least the way it was through iTunes - is an option anymore. What you have to do is sign up for Apple Music and then your library will sync to whatever devices/computers are signed into the same Apple ID.

There was an option called "iTunes Match" that did this pre-Apple Music though I am not sure it is still available.
