Thanks. I also called Apple support and they acted like I was stupid and didn’t know how to connect a usb cable to my phone and car. This is highly annoying. I just want to be able to listen to music in my car.

Ok thank you so much! I’m definitely buying one and going to test it out in my car very soon! :) I hope it works 🤞
Hi, I did all those things you described, no there is no error message, it simply won’t connect to phone ( it only charges my phone now) , I tried manual switching, that did nothing! I tried different cable and no result! I was on the chat with Apple yesterday, and the things they tried did not help either :((
Honestly I’m about ready to ditch Apple products. This is beyond frustrating.
Not sure if anyone suggested this already, but I found a workaround. Lighting to aux adapter connected to an aux cord. You don’t get to change anything using the car stereo controls but it’s better than nothing.
Of course! It’s a lighting to aux adapter. It connects to the charging port of the iPhone. The end has an aux connector you can plug an aux cable into. Plug a cable into that end and plug the other end into your car. You should have an aux connector close to the usb connection in your car. Here are pics of the ones I purchased.
Let me know if you have any questions!
To reply to you, no, Apple cannot undo the update! I contacted Apple customer service yesterday, and they said Apple doesn’t support the uninstallment of the updates! They tried to troubleshoot with me but it lead to no result, it is very sad. then they said they need to escalate my issue to another level, I’m supposed to call them again to see if they can troubleshoot some more! So far no positive results sorry :(
Same issue. It isn’t an issue with my car/cable/etc. It is absolutely a bug in 15.1 update. It isn’t the first time this has happened. Anyone know how to undo the update? I’m not patient enough to wait for Apple to release a fix this time.
Hi elena_kk, We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that you are no longer able to play music from your iPhone to your car's aux.
We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.
Are you receiving any error messages on your iPhone or on your car's display?
Have you had the chance to try a different cable?
In most cases, you can manually change the mode of your car's entertainment system. Does it help if you manually change to aux?
If you are using a third-party app to play music, we recommend that you check for app updates.

Take care!
I’m sorry to tell you this but I called Apple Support and this issue cannot be fixed, if your car doesn’t support CarPlay(new feature) then Apple cannot help you; they told me to take my car to my dealership to see if they can install new patches; it’s a lot
of hassle and I am planning to do that but I’m not sure if that will even help!
Forgot to add. You’ll have to change music (or fast forward, rewind etc) using your phone. This connection only transfers whatever you’re playing to the car speakers. There’s no functionality beyond that.
Same issue does it take them long to fix bugs like this.
I’ve only just bought my car and don’t fancy paying out more when it could be simply fixed my apple.
maybe time to move to another phone other than apple to many issues.
Hello, sorry to come back on this. Made lately the update to my iPhone XR. But even shortly before, the iPhone suddenly did not connect anymore via usb to the car, so no ApplePlayCar functionalities anymore. No msg of error, changed cable, cable in/out many times, but my husband’s iPhone does connect without issues, I tried to play on the car menu but when on the cable it doesn’t even read the Bluetooth (which is fine if not on the cable), not activation of any connectivity with my phone. I used to use it for all the functionalities from roadmaps to calls to music. Now it only charges. And of course also here it is forbidden to use the phone manually while driving. What can I do to solve it? Many tks!
Has anyone figured this out?! I’m having the same issue. It’s very frustrating
You’re welcome! One more thing. If you want to be able to charge your phone at the same time you’ll have to get the adapter that has a lightning splitter. A pic of the one I got is below.
