Exporting for ATMOS Reference Playback

Hello,

I have a Dolby Atmos mix that I am working on and would like to export it for playback reference. My Father has a full Atmos capable home theater room and I would love to reference my Atmos mixes in there before submitting to streaming services.

It seems as if a .mp4 file will work in this case but how do I export audio as a .mp4. Should I add a random video to my logic file and then export the audio only is some fashion?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Logic doesn't have that capabilities. Remember, the Dolby Atmos integration in Logic is using only a subset of the professional Dolby Atmos Renderer app. That app has the option to export the Dolby Atmos mix to an MP4 file, which functions as a wrapper file that includes the DD+JOC codec . You can copy that, for example, to a thumb drive and play it back on a device with a USB slot to playback a file like that (i.e. AV Receiver, Blu-Ray, or soundbar).

There is a 3-month trial for the Dolby Atmos Renderer, so you can use that, but be warned, it has a bit of a learning curve to know what to do.

Thank you so much for your response! That makes sense, maybe I’ll download the demo and see what I can do with it. Honestly, at $300 that Dolby Atmos Suite seems well worth it. I am sure it is highly involved beyond the subset logic gives but seems worth learning.

I will definitely be checking out your literature for future reference.

Thanks again!

Logic is great to get your feet wet with Dolby Atmos, but if you want to have more control over you Atmos mixes, then the Dolby Atmos Renderer is the way to go. BTW, they also offer a $99 Educational price if you are a student or teacher.

One great musical feature when using the Dolby Atmos Renderer with Logic is the free Dolby Atmos Music Panner plugin. It is a 3D Object Panner with a built-in Step Sequencer where you can draw pattern for each step. Super cool for musical pattern panning to get creative.
