I've been having this problem too (Trekz Air and Aeropex) and I've figured out my problem. Looks like if you reduce the mic input level setting to zero then the Mac tells the headphones to mute. I had my Zoom audio settings set to "Automatically adjust microphone volume" which causes it to reduce the mic input level to zero whenever it thinks you are not speaking, which triggers the headphone mute. I have disabled this option and now I don't get the constant muting. There is a similar setting in Microsoft Teams (Devices --> Automatically adjust mic sensitivity) which you also need to disable.

Hello mario49,

yes the headphone was connected to the mac

yes I use the microphone of head set

yes when switch of the headphone microphone of macs works greate

already I reset the headphone today didn't use it on the online meeting

the couple wired thinks happened I will share it with you,

  • story middle of the meeting people can't hear me I try to mute on the unmute application mic nothings happened, then switch off the headphone and continues work on mac mic/speaker
  • for the second time, it happened the same and I switch to the phone call
  • when I back to use headphones for listening to the music I noticed only the left side speaker working after resetting the headphone and a couple of other things I noticed the setting of Bluetooth devices on the mac settings is changed and the balance bar was on the left side, so i leave for the mute is also the setting is changed on that time

I have the same problem with Aftershokz Air headphones after updating to Monterey on my MacBook Pro 2020. Please provide a solution quickly, because it is really frustrating!!! I already reset the headphone. Restarted the computer,

tried everything in systems preferences, but the problem still exists. Work calls are unable to be done and productivity is being effected. Thank you

Exact same issue here. I work in IT as well and am evaluating Monterey before we deploy it to the rest of our customers. I have been using a Plantronics Voyager bluetooth headset for over a year now without any issues. I upgraded my M1 MacAir to Monterey and now, several times during a call, my Plantronics goes on Mute. I have to manually press the mute button on the headset to turn off the mute. It's really strange...as if the mac is telling the headset to mute itself. Sometimes I can talk for several minutes without issue....but most of the time it is muting so frequently that I have to switch to a wired headset which works fine. I have not tried a headset from a different manufacturer yet.

Hey peeps,

Have you resolved this issue?

I have a similar problem as the OP.

Ever since the Monterey update, my Samsung earbuds live have been constantly put on mute in the middle of my meet and/or slack calls. It is only audio going out being muted, as I can hear the sound from others in the call but they cannot hear me once the "mute" issue happens. Strangely, I can use them without issue to listen to music or videos but the problem essentially is related to my headphones microphone, which get muted constantly and have not been able to fix.

Its is important to mention that the only way to resolve it is to disconnect from bluetooth and just take calls on the regular audio/mic from my MacBook Air (bought with Big Sur 2021). But it has been months now and I cannot keep working like this.

I hope Apple can solve this ASAP as it is a huge issue considering I am constantly on calls at work.

Thank you all for your input.

Regards,

Os

UGGH. Updated to Monterey at end of last week… I knew there was a reason I should wait!!! My Aftershokz auto mute in both Meets (Chrome) and Facetime (from M1 Macbook Air) tonight while troubleshooting w my IT partner. My other bluetooth 3rd party airbuds the sound is extremely low, too much to use. I have to plug in a headset with audio jack. 🤦‍♀️ This is not workable for a professional meeting.

Not sure why there is an entry marked as “solved” here. I tried it and it didn’t work for me. I’m guessing Apple doesn’t really care if it has a bug that basically mutes third-party headsets. I suspect if this was happening to AirPods we would get a fix pretty quick. I’ve been using Macs for decades and one of the best things about them was that they just always worked when you plugged something in (or connected via Bluetooth).
