Safari performance issues with Monterey 12.0.1

I have a 2017 13" Macbook Pro and just upgraded to Monterey 12.0.1. Safari has constant problems. Notably it freezes and has to be force closed and restart. There are other issues an annoyances as well like when operating in full screen mode I have my tool bar set to hide when browsing. Normally, when you bring the cursor to the top of the screen the toolbar pops back down. A large percentage of the time it does not and I have to exit full screen mode to access the toolbar...very frustrating. I've cleared history and cache etc as well as reinstalled Monterey and am still having the same issues. Any advice?

APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS
