Important battery message.

Just had this pop up on my screen along with some screed to check service options. Had a few problems recently with screen showing low battery and refusing to boot, although the actual machine was immediately showing over 80% when connected to power. Did some searches and found some reset things that I tried and they seemed to work.

In New Zealand so not anywhere near an authourised service crowd, so looking for options.

Model is 2017 Macbook Pro 13" but purchased in 2018.

Is it worth trying to get this repaired or is a new machine a better option?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

If you have the non-Touchbar model, then the laptop may be eligible for a free battery repair program, but only Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will be able to confirm eligibility:

FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products may have multiple programs):

Try an SMC Reset.

Run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

You can also run Coconut Battery to see if the "Service Recommended" battery condition is due to a faulty battery or if the battery is just losing capacity. A "Service Recommended" condition typically is triggered once the battery capacity drops below 80% of Design Capacity, but you can keep using the battery until the battery no longer performs to your expectations.
