What’s the difference between a folder and an album?

What’s the difference between a “folder” and an album on the photos app on the iPhone? How would you use a folder as opposed to an album?

Fundamentally, similar. A folder can hold a series of albums. In my photos I have one folder per year from 1880 forward. Inside of those folders, are folders by event (Independence Day). And, inside that, images.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it and provide an example.

(I’m especially impressed that you’ve kept organized records since 1880.

Say, did we celebrate Independence Day in the same way back then? If you can remember without checking your folders I’m even more impressed! Then again, I now totally understand why one would keep folders: I can’t remember what I did yesterday let alone on July 4th, 1880 😉)
