Rough patches on iPad Pro 11 inch (2021)

I have seen other threads on here about this problem and it’s quite frustrating that Apple has not provided any answers. I bought a brand new iPad Pro 2000 11 inch and when using the Apple Pencil there are definitely rough spots on the screen that will not go away no matter how much wiping and cleaning I do. The only thing that temporarily solves the problem is greasing the screen with either my fingers or oils from my face. I’ve only wiped it with a lint free cloth as suggested on the Apple site. This problem will not go away. I have seen others post this and the only responses Apple ever gives are to clean the screen but that clearly does not work.  I did not have this issue on my older iPad.

Have you checked to see if there is a problem with the tip of your Apple Pencil? If has been dropped? A small defect in the Pencil tip as you move it around can cause an issue if you turn it slightly. I had a slight flat spot on my Pencil, I had dropped it a couple of times but didn't really think there was any damage. Changing to a new tip made a big difference.

Hey Chris, thanks for the feedback.

Actually , I swapped out the tip with my other Apple Pencil and it works as expected/ very well now. First thing I did with my new iPad pencil was dropped it, tip first, onto a hardwood floor. Guess that’s what ruined it. All better now though. I think I’m going to try polishing compound to resurface my bad tips . . . Seems a good way to save some money and keep the landfills from filling up with Apple Pencil tips lol.

Polishing your pencil tips with a polishing compound is a bad idea. Here’s why…

Any polishing compound is, by definition, an abrasive material. It works because it is harder than the surface that you are trying to re-finsh.

Basic material science shows us that hard particles will embed in the surface of a softer material - such a soft plastics. Consider now the effect of using your [re-finished] Pencil Tip, now with embedded with very fine hard abrasive material, upon your very expensive iPad screen.
