Hello Shannonmc76,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, your iPhone can't verify the battery. We'll certainly do our best to assist with this.
You came from the best resource for this question: About genuine iPhone batteries
It states, "You will see a notification on your lock screen for the first 4 days that you use your device, and in the Settings app for 15 days. After that period, you can find the notification by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health."
We'd recommend to go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see the current capacity. If it's 80% or lower, then we'd suggest bringing it in for a replacement: iPhone Battery & Power Repair
Even if the capacity is higher than 80%, but you're not sure if it's been repaired in the past or the part in the repair was legitimate, then you can bring it in to Apple for an inspection.
Get prepared for your visit: Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service
Select your region and search nearby for locations: Find Locations
Due to the current conditions around the world, some stores may have limited hours or appointment times. They also may require specific things to visit them (Such as, scheduling an appointment, wearing a mask, calling to check-in, etc.).
Hoping this helps out, take care.
