gmail: No connection to the internet

I was having a problem when my mail app said "no connection to the internet" when setting up for Gmail. I see many other folks having the same error with no solution. I completely reset the phone and still, the issue persisted.

Later realized that it was because my settings did not have permission to use cellular and wifi. I am not sure why this error started since I have been using the same phone for a while. Nevertheless, enabling it started working.

This is not a question, rather a solution. I did not have permission to reply to those conversations, hence starting a new one.
